R6 Immobiliser

I have an 06 R6 with a dodgy immobilizer. The cable going into the back of the immobiliser receiver unit attached to the ignition has a bad connection.

The bike starts every time, but sometimes the immobiliser does not dissengage. When that happens, after I turn the key, H1 is shown on the dash. Thus far, I have been able to make the bike work by playing with the wire going into the Immobiliser unit. I am afraid that sooner or later, this "fix" will stop working.

My other problem is that the bike was sold to me with only 1 black key. I didnt know anything about the bike when I bought it and didnt know I needed a red key.

I was quoted 1200 from a dealership for a new lockset.

I have been offered an ECU, Petrol Cap, Seat Lock, Ignition, and Immobiliser Unit for 250...but it also only comes with one key (the red one).

Is there anything that I should look out for? Is 250 a good price? How much should I expect to pay for a new black key?

THanks.

Re: R6 Immobiliser

Another question...

I am thinking about buying an alarm for my bike; for example the Acumen Cat 21. This has its own immobiliser, and key fobs.

Does anyone know if these override the yamaha immobiliser? If it does, would I still need the red key at all.

Is an alarm system such as this a viable alternative to replacing the whole locking system?

Re: R6 Immobiliser

Dont worry. You are in the US; I am in UK.

You guys dont have an immobiliser, so I expect the Red key is not important. It is only needed to program a new key to the immobiliser system (which you dont have)

I am looking for a reply from anyone from UK or Canada where immobilisers are fitted.

Re: R6 Immobiliser

immobiliser spoil, or red key lost....u pretty much screwed.

in singapore, we get UK spec r6. there is immobiliser. normally, the dealers keep the red key till hire purchase is completed. and they issue us 2 black key. in case, u loose ur black key, the red key can be reprogammed to ur immobiliser and u can get a new set of keys.

so the person who gets ur lost keys, cant start ur bike.

i am not sure, if getting ECU, and key from US will do any help.

Re: R6 Immobiliser

I don't have any experience with these, but my guess is that the device simply plugs in-between the ignition, possibly clutch and neutral switches. If this is the case, you should be able to simply unplug from all of these, then reinsert each plug back into their original socket, as they were done from the factory. If the intermittent H1 code turns into an intermittent 19 code, then there's something else that is going on; though there's always the possibility of having more than a single simultaneous issue.
