I just found myself in the same situation, except it looks like I've done over 1000 track kms with no front nut. I only found it when I went to do a 520 conversion but it 'seems' ok at first glance.
Locking washer and nut on order, I'm considering hitting this with red loctite as well

It's possible to check for this, regularly, without disassembling.
Photos and part numbers (for my model/year) are here...
