First Knee Down At Thunderhill

Hey Everyone,

I had a blast recently at Thunderhill riding with Keigwins At the Track, and in addition to shaving 10 seconds off my lap times, I also got my knee down for the first time ever! I’ve been working on braking later in the turns and still have much work to do. I’m running the Michelin Pilot Power 3’s that were on the bike when I bought it. I wonder if I can get down to 2:05 or so before getting warmers and track tires... (2:14 or so in link below).

There are two "first times" you never forget. One of them is getting the knee down. The other does not require a leather suit.

Wait till you get a set of Power Cups on there. It gets easier.

More like a latex/rubber one.

Re: First Knee Down At Thunderhill

Ha, Yes that 1200 stood up in front of me going over the hill at turn 9. I was throwing everything I could at my lap times (trying to pass him) only to find out hes an instructoer and runs A group times on an adventure bike! (Hes mentioned in next weeks vid, Why you should try track days.)

...And yes if you can make it, try Thunderhill (totally recommend Keigwins). The west track is cool, but the 3 mile East Track is awesome! Still waiting to try the combined 5 mile! Camping is cool in the paddock and after our baby is born we hope to get a toy hauler and make some more weekends out there next year!

Re: First Knee Down At Thunderhill

anyone going on June 30/Jul 1 to Thunderhill w/Keigwins? I'll be instructing (mostly R3, but will bring out the R6 for some fun). Haven't ridden the R6 at the track in almost 2 years

Re: First Knee Down At Thunderhill

I wish, that’s within days of our 2nd daughter’s due date... Me thinks it may be a bit, but I’d be down to do a group meet up late this year/next year at Thunderhill. I’d say Sonoma or Laguna Seca but I’m not paying that much to get kicked outa Laguna (or sandbag) due to my exhaust... I could be swayed to pony up for Sonoma though... I’ve watched Indy races there and that track looks like fun!
