2008-09 vs 2010 track R6.

I am told by a few track riders that the 08-09 R6 can produce more or less a few extra hp bc of their airbox mod vs newer models r6. A racer with 08 r6 told me that he and his buddy have the same racing skills and same exact track bike setup was able to beat him by a few secs. bc of airbox mod. Can someone enlighten me if the 08-09 can produce more hp without a dyno

Its the actual airbox/variable stacks that make a lil more power vs the later model ons... It would be more apparent is a superstock class vs a superbike one. Also the airfilter baffle is larger on the early models. That is more of a epa noise issue. If you look at race bodies... certain companies make a bigger funnel between the headlight areas. Good for a few cfm at WFO.
I dont buy that both riders are equal all the time...otherwise they should be nose to tail when running together. Sometimes riders have good days and bad days.

The 08 bike was just faster this means in a superstock class, if we take the rider out of the equation, a 08-09 track setup R6 will have more edge over newer ones with the exact track setup from the start line

Re: 2008-09 vs 2010 track R6.

again... a 2008 bike is 99% identical to a 2016 one. The minor changes were to the clutch, intake snorkel, dust covers on wheel bearings, and variable stacks. Hence why folks racing in SS classes with current model bikes were back dating certain components. Keep in mind if you got a pair of cams from a 06-07 model it would make even more power but you have a shorter service life on the valve train.
The problem arrises when you want to race for Yamaha contingency... you have to use a current model bike. Also the snorkel gate was a pretty big deal for Cory West a couple years ago at the Daytona 200.
The R6 is/was a streetbike so the changes were due to EPA regs. It was not a performance consideration.
Also if you paid attention to some of Graves offerings... you would notice their $1200 was an exact copy of the OEM yamaha one with some adjustability built in. You could have purchased an 09 intake/airbox & saved about $1100 unless you wanted all metal.
Same with GSXRs. You can buy the rubber intake stacks for $15 each or $60 total to have the ability to move the torque curve. Or you could get stung by Factory Pro for $600 for some "metal"ones...lol. Exact same power except 1 will not pass post race tech.
