**front tire scrubs on fender**

got a 02 r6. specs say i should have 120/60/17 on front but i bought bike with 120/70/17. it scrubs every once in a while and i dont know why. could u guys help me out so i can fix the prob. it seems liek the tire is too tall but the i dont see how 120/70/17 would make a difference???

Re: **front tire scrubs on fender**

the 170 is a taller tire. so when you go fast it expands enough to scuff the fender. the dealer that put the tire on should have told you not to do that tire combo. you can't really fix it unless you can find a way to move the fender up. Always use the stock tire profile unless you know b-4 hand what the fesults will be. I would see if the dealer or tire shop will let you exchange it for a 160.

its a 70 not a 170.
the middle number does not have anything to do with height of tire does it?

hey, thats the sound i hear, everyonce in a while if i hit a rock or many rocks..i will hear it scrape. u think it will wear out fender over time?

why do u have a 120/70 on ther anyway?...improve performance or what?

Re: **front tire scrubs on fender**

your right it is 70 or 60. added the 1 ooops. yamaha realized that using a taller tire improved performance that is the only reason.

Re: **front tire scrubs on fender**

take the front fender off and ovalize the mounting holes with a drill. It allows you to slide the fender slightly higher and gets rid of the rubbing. Now if you want to fix the suspension geometry look up on here how to raise the forks in the triples.

Kinda... The middle number is the aspect ratio... it is a ratio of the width of the tire to the hight. So to tires with the same width, and one with a higher aspect ratio, it makes the tire taller.
