Re: does anybody have Thrust stage 2 520 conversion?

I'm going to ask the obvious question, what makes thier 520 conversion a stage 2?

A 520 conversion is taking your stock steel 525 or 530 sprockets and replacing them with 520 sprockets. The front generally you keep as steel and the rear you generally replace with Aluminum. The 520 is thinner than the 525 or 530 and therefore the chain is also, making them both lighter. Aluminum is lighter than steel so you drop more weight on the rear spocket. This lighting reduces unsprung weight on the motorcycle, unsprung weight makes a big difference when steering a motorcycle and it can allow the wheel to spin up quicker.

520 sprockets are pretty much standard track issue with tons of sizes available, you would have trouble finding an unusual 525 or 530 spocket.

What would make this a stage 2? Unless that is the product name and not a description, someone is pulling your leg. If you don't believe me, I have a whole box of powerbands laying around that I will sell you cheap.

Ok, n00b question here. What does the number 520 mean? A measurement of some sort?

Has to do with the chain size 525 is narrower than a 530 and a 520 is narrower than a 525. You need corresponding sized spockets to match.

Re: does anybody have Thrust stage 2 520 conversion?

I know all about the 520 conversion and what it does. Stage 2 simply means -2 on the front and + 2 on the back. Most conversions i see just have a -1/+2 which is what a stage 1 conversion would be. I wasn't asking for an explanation of technical stuff that i already know just asking if anybody tried the stage 2 and how it performed in comparison to -1/+2 and stock gearing. Basically i wanna make my r6 more fun without sacrificing alot of top speed. I don't mind losing 15 to 20 mph. Thanks

well starting off i havent done this yet but from other posts on the board

-1 front +5 rear would give you a top speed of 140mph approximately, just restating what i have read here im planning on using this setup when i have to replace mine chain/sprockets.

Are you sure? 14t and you may start to have clearance problems with the chain rubbing. You can only go so small in the front before you have these problems. Plus each tooth in the front is like 3 in the rear and going up 8 teeth in the rear would be something I might consider only for the tightest of tracks where top speed wasn't a concern and even then 8 teeth sounds aggressive. I took a look at the site and it appears that they make a lot of stunta products and going up 8 teeth I assume would make the bike much easier to wheelie, (I am a racer and don't really know much about stunting products).
