Quarter-Mile Dragstrip, First Time

Thought I'd post of the quarter mile times for my 2016 R6. The bike is completely stock. Hell, I still have the full fender on it. This is the first time I've ever been on a drag strip, so it was a new experience. I was a little worried about lifting the front, so my reaction time isn't as good as it should be.

On my first run, I hit the rev limiter before shifting so that slowed me down. Whats funny is that I went against an old 70's Dodge Challenger. The R6 doesn't have much power at the lower RPM's so for the first few seconds, the car had a nice lead on me. However, once I hit 9000+ RPM's, I screamed past him.

R/T: .836
60′: 2.491
330′: 6.129
1/8: 8.879
MPH: 90.72
1000: 11.274
E.T.: 13.345
MPH: 107.74

My second run felt much better.

R/T: .866
60′: 2.259
330′: 5.832
1/8: 8.565
MPH: 90.40
1000: 10.916
E.T.: 12.942
MPH: 109.66

Damn, that was fun.

Re: First Time At A Quarter-Mile Dragstrip

reaction time means shit... you could sit there til the light goes green and still make a good pass.

Youre over a 1/2 second from where you need to be on the 60' and 1.6 seconds from where are good 1/8th mile pass et.
My guess is youre not launching at peak torque... which is made at 11,000+ rpms. This is the required technique for all motorcycle launches.
Second is launching at peak torque will eliminate the wheelie tendency of the machine so long as you have proper weight distribution (weight over the front)
Also your MPH is way down. You should be in the mid to upper 120mph range.
Also you should set your shift light and maybe make the shift pattern into "GP" style where you pull up for first gear and all the rest are down.

Its good to know the R6 can go faster because there were some fast ****ing cars there. There are a lot of things I could improve on, but I still had fun. I wish I got a video.

On a different topic, I trailered my bike with my classic truck to the drag strip. Before I ran the motorcycle, I took the truck down the quarter mile just for the hell of it. Keep in mind that the truck is a 74 Chevy K10 with M/T tires, the original 350 engine, 35" tires, a 3" lift, and the original TH350 3 speed automatic transmission. I was at Bandimere Speedway in Denver and the carb isn't tuned for this altitude. I think I could walk faster.

22.57 seconds. Top speed of 58.45 MPH.

cool stuff. I have a daily truck Ive taken down the strip a few times. Best was a [email protected] on a lousy 60' time. The truck is a 5 speed manual with a
stock clutch and no driveshaft loop.

Then I hop on my street bike and blast off an [email protected] feels like slow motion in the truck...lol.

Most fast car guys have more than the cost of a new ZX14 or 1000 in their cars to get single digit ets and over 130mph. And they need to be trailered or worked on often. Where a bike could go tens of thousands of miles and passes and barely need anything except maybe a clutch, tire, or oil...lol.

Cheap speed.

Learning the ride a bike from a dead stop is alot of fun and seperates men from the boys. Especially with a "hand clutch". When you see faster bikes with "scooter clutches" (centrifugal type) dont bet any money against them...lol. WHole different animal and where reaction time comes more into play.

Re: First Time At A Quarter-Mile Dragstrip

I used to race my 99 R6 at the strip. Had a slip on and geared down in the front. It would consistently run 11.1's at around 119-122 with a 1.9 sixty foot.

Quarter mile racing is pretty cheap compared to road racing and is almost as much fun!!
