First off, let me tell you, I SUCK at doing how to's for the simple fact that I never stop to take pictures. I do have TONS of pics however, Hopefully I took them all at the right time.

EDIT: I wanted to mention that these are Bi-Xenon Projectors, with this mod you will have low beams on both sides and high beams on both sides.

These are available with the following color angel eyes:
White
Blue
Red

These are available with the following K ratings:
4300K
6000K
8000K
10000K

/EDIT

Edit #2: I have the mounting brackets now, they will work for the 06 - 11 R6. They are located here:
http://www.kryptonbulbs.com/HID-kits/HID-Projector-Kits/R6-projector-brackets

I also Have a couple vids of the Finished products

This "How To" is compiled from 2 installs that I did as I didnt take enough pics on either one of them LOL.

Some pics of the projectors:

OK, we take a perfectly good headlight Housing and we bake it at 200 F for about 12 minutes.

Seperate the housings by applying pressure to the tabs and pulling apart

Now, some people put the projectors into the reflective housings, but there are some clearance issues to do that on some models. I Remove the Reflective housings to install plates that I make

I then remove the brackets (there are 2) from the reflective housings

Now, I use some special plastic I ordered in but I started by using a cutting board you can buy at walmart. I Cut plates to the general shape and sanded or recut until I had a good fit inside the housing

I drill a 3/4" hole for the projector to mount through, a 1/2" hole for the wires for the shutter and angel eye to go through, 4 smaller holes (#35 drill bit) for the mounting brackets, and 3 5/16" holes for the adjusted screws to go through. I mill the plates to accept the brackets I pulled off the reflective housings. I give the adjuster screw mounts .175" of clearance and drop the mounting locating for the larger bracket .100" for the one screw

I then attach the adjustment brackets I pulled from the reflective housings

Then I install the plates to the headlight housing, at this point I make sure its a good fit and if it is not I might take a little more material off the edges.

After this it is time to put the Projectors in
Which it seems I didnt take a picture of off, but I do have one on, at this piont I recommend testing the system.

On my first install I didnt put any shrouds in, On the second one I started. I used some material I found at a craft store but I do want to change to a black rubber cookie sheet liner next time, here is what it looks like. *important note, you need to put these on before you mount the projectors :) so go back one step lol

I then test the system again and begin to reinstall the lenses. You can bake the headlight housing again to get it back together or use a heat gun. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH A HEAT GUN, you can melt the plastic. I would actually try a hair dryer. You can use the included glue, but in reality, you dont loose any of what was on the housing to begin with and you should be fine just reinstalling it with the factory glue.

A few pics of the system back together with the lenses on some with power on some off, note, these are 2 different setups, one with white angel eyes and 1 with blue:

Now on to some wiring,
On the 1st kit I wired the angel eyes right into the headlight power, I hooked up to the wires that power the ballasts (it is still DC at this point). I soldered these wires to the connector pins and reinstalled them in the connectors. They come apart rather easy with a pick to release the pins from the connector.

The other kit I ran the wires to a switch for the customer... SORRY, NO PICS! and he is going to pick up power from his running lights so when he turns the key on the angel eyes will turn on as well as giving him the option to shut them off if he wants.

I remove the stock wires from the housing by using a pick to pull the pins out of the connectors, I reinstall the pins to use these for my final wiring

I drill the dust covers to 7/8" (its really tight) to accept the plugs with the wires through them. I also make some small incisions in the plugs to get the shutter wires and the halo wires through.

I remove the female spade style connectors from the plastic connector housing so that I can plug them into the new control harness. (again using a pick or a small screwdrive in this case, sorry I dont have a pic of me doing this.

The pink wire is the high beam positive wire, the White wire is the low beam positive wire, and the blue wire is a ground.

Other than that you need to find a place to mount the ballasts for the HID's and the ignitors for the Angel eyes. The rest of the wiring is pretty straight forward, everything has connectors and will only fit the wires they should be connected to except there is one positive wire to go to the battery, 2 negative or common wires to be attached to a ground point (something on the frame but it needs to be bare metal, or you could always just splice them together and run a neg straight to the battery.) and light we touched on earlier hooking up the wires for the angel eyes power.

Oh, you also have to mount the relay for the system somewhere, if you have seen DDM's monster relays these should look much more appealing to you

Here are some vids of the systems in action

And before I forget,
You can purchase the kit OR the kit with install here:
http://www.kryptonbulbs.com/HID-kits/HID-Projector-Kits/projector-kit

I feel $300 for kit and install is a STEAL.... jump on it before I act on my feelings... If you buy now you can always ship to me over the winter and I will honer the install at the price you bought it for.

If you want a switch to turn the Angel Eyes on and off its $20 extra

***EDIT***
I have decided to do only 10 kits total at this price. Knowing what the competition charges and when I stop to think about everything going into these installs I really am not making alot for my time when you add in the extra material used and the fact that I cover shipping back to you. Now, I still want to be the best price out there and from what I hear people charge between 500 and 600 for these mods, I am going to do the mod for $400 ($150 for the kit $250 for the install) with a couple of options that will make it a little higher if they are wanted. I am also going to be working at trying to perfect my plates and shrouds so I can offer them for sale for the do it yourselfers so you can do the mod for about half the price yourself (when these are ready)

Anyhow, I have done 2 so far and I have had one other customer pay already with a headlight housing on its way to me. So, I am offering this for 7 more kits. I am raising the price on the site now, and for the $300 kit/installation you will need to use the following coupon code which will be valid for 7 uses, after the 7th guy buys using this code it will automatically expire.

The Coupon code is:
r6proj

Applied during checkout this will take $100 off the order.

I think 7 more mods is a decent amount guys, but remember act fast as others probably want these too. Anybody is more than welcome to buy now and have them installed over the winter so they can lock in at this price, If I get a few of the preorders in for install over the winter I may add some more allowed people to this coupon code.

Fixed :)

Salaxin is great at doing this stuff too, he does both the FX projector mod and will be doing mods with my sets as well. If I get to the point where I cant handle the mods due to time constraints he will be taking over for me :fact

Thats cool, I like how mine are "too big" for the housing and have a bit covered, makes it look alive and mean.

Im not too big on all those extra LED's in there either and I dont put anything like that in there. Sooooo, i'm leaving that part of the market open for others...

#16 ·
damn, i will have to jump on this when i get home (a couple months) so hopefully you don't raise the price by then. also any pics on how bright the lights actually are at night?

#18 ·
Looks epic can't wait to put them on my bike.... Hope i don't mess up on my end:sing Your work really speaks for it's self wow!:YEA

#19 ·
Its gonna be fine gund (this is the guy the last install is for with the blue halos)

Like I said shoot me a call for any issues, will your guitar buddy be helping you with the meter?

Thanks for the positive remarks guys! Gund is going to post up some installed pics once he gets it installed.

Gund, do you know how to adjust the headlights? There are 3 10mm bolts (2 also accept a phillips screwdriver) that you need to adjust to raise or lower the beams also move left to right. These are screwed all the way in right now so turn them counter clockwise to adjust. You should point the bike at the garage door and adjust them on low beam. See my website for some help on adjusting them.

Sweet beans, will do!:cheers

BTW anyone one thing of doing this should jump on it kryptons prices are half of what other charge for such services.

#28 ·
Krypton, are the projector housings metal? I would definitely powdercoat all that chrome. I would love to do this mod, but all that chrome just doesn't look right to me.

#30 ·
Looks really good. You can't beat what projectors do for the appearance of your bike.
Great work, and price!

#32 ·
As promised Krypton Pictures up. Sorry the they aren't that great, I finished the bike at 7AM & it's raining:thumbdown

F-ing Hott man.... are you glad you went with the halos wired to the running lights? I love that look with just the halos on.

Looks mint in the bike, I dont think I've seen an installed pic from the last guy, very happy to see this. Is it ok to use your pic on my site? Also, if you get a better pic can I use it?

Thanks
Josh

These do look very excellent, and they hit hespot for me and what i want but would they be small enough to fit in the housing of an earlier model of R6 such as the 2004? It would require alot of modding to remove all the original projector systle lighs and mount these i would belive ... have these projectors been used in a 2003 - 2005 model R6 yet??

#38 ·
im just looking at the pic with a big smile on my face... I know there are alot more of these mods to come... it feels good to know my hands will be touching all these Yamaha's :)

Thanks to all you guys here on the R6 Forum, you have been a HUGE support to my company and have been the guys taking chances on me and my products, the other forums have not stepped up even close to what you have done. I'm proud to be a sponsor here and happy to be a part of the community.

I've turned a few of my friends on to you. I hope it drums up more sales your one of the best vendors I have ever dealt with.:cheers

#41 ·
i am . the kit you sell comes with everything needed to make this project? like back plates and shrouds and projectors, or it only comes with the projectors?. are you including instructions, besides this how to?.

BTW: it looks terrific. i like the way you do the wiring. very clean.

nice job :cheers.

#42 ·
If you just buy the $150 kit, it does not come with plates, I do all that once I open the housing and I havent "prefected" the plates yet so I cant sell them... If I ever am comfortable with them I will offer them for sale, if that is the case I will start offering everything I use with the kits, but, at that point, the project done by me cost will go up. I try to do it for a good deal, I am thinking I am going to do 8 more kits at this price and then raise it. From what I understand you cant get this done for under $500 from others and while I still plan to do better then that its obvious I am undercompensating myself.

Also, thanks for the compliment

i don't have a problem paying you for the installation, but i can not wait to winter time, since this is the best time to ride and show up those projectors :lmao

now, if i do the installation myself, i would need more details like links where to buy the "special plastic" to build the plates, and shrouds. also you missed some dimensions critical to achieve the same result you got.

like those measurements.

.

thank you for your help.

#45 ·
I can give you those 4 measurements no problem, the problem is the other 7 holes that have to be drilled. And if they arent in the same spots then that would change the outcome of the position of the projectors.

The special plastic, the first kit I did with a plastic cutting board I believe made by farberware? from walmart as that is what others that did these mods had used. It was Very easy to work with, and sanded down nicely but I do have some decent power tools available to me (bandsaw, benchtop belt sander) the second Kit I used some UHMW i bought through mscdirect.com (in the color black) I got 1/2" and I think I should have just went with 3/8". This stuff looks great, cuts easy, but sands horribly, It took forever to even take a little material off.... maybe the belt was just getting beat though, I did not try a new belt. I have 10 projector sets worth of it though so it will be a bit before I go to some thinner stuff. If you want a couple blocks of it, I could sell it at a reasonable price ($5 each block bigger than you need it so you can cut it to size, ill sell more then 2 if you want to get an extra or 2 in case of screw ups) Just FYI, the cutting board was $15 at walmart and you can make 3 or 4 brackets with it.

To get my original measurements I used a set of calipers the best I could and tried to get it all to a thousanth of an inch, unfortunatly, nothing is straight on those housings, it makes it very hard to get it perfect. I will be more than happy to give you all those measurements, but keep in mind, you are going to have to tweak them, I recommend doing the big bracket and the 2 holes you pointed arrows to and then figuring out the position for the other bracket by dabbing a bit of grease or paint on the end of the other screw that will be going through the brackets adjustment screw (the black thing on the bracket) so you know where to drill the hold for the screw to go through and you can mount the smaller bracket accordingly. I will grab my notes on them tomorrow so I can give them to you. (shoot me a PM if you want them)

I saw a thread earlier asking for a broken set of headlights and there were a few people with them... maybe I will try to pick one up so I can put some time into developing these brackets better.

As for the shrouds, I dont have a template for them, I cut them out large and trim them until I like it, then I duplicate it. I went to a local hobby store and found a material I liked for the shrouds, but I am still trying to come up with something else, I am looking at these rubber cooking mats for pans that can be found on ebay and will probably go with them next unless I find something else I think would work as good or better
