How to install a Power Commander III (R6 2006)

Very easy tutorial: installation of the Power Commander III USB.

You will need to access the under the tank, so just remove the tank from his original place.

Remove the plastic fairing below the tank and move the tank. Find a solution to have a complete access to the airbox.

Remove the seat and move slightly the ECU box in order to have move place to work. The PC will be fixed with velcro on the ECU box.

The following are screenshots from the original documentation (because it's nicely done).

Some pictures of the installation on my bike:

USB connection:

If you connect your laptop by USB, be sure that the USB is correctly plugged in (need to help a little bit to have it plug correctly). The current map will be directly displayed in the software provided with the PC. To load a map, just send it and you will get a confirmation when it's loaded. Use the throttle and see the synchro within the program on your laptop.

External power required to run a PCIII:
The Power commander requires external power in order to communicate with it or to make button adjustements. On some models of motorcycles, power is only supplied to it while the engine is running (if the lights on the face of the unit go out a few seconds after switching on the ignition: your bike is affected by this); To power the PCIII you can connect the supplied 9 volt power adpater instead of using the bike's power. i have a question i put in my power comander on my 06 50th and i followed the directions that were given. although the power commander does not seem to be powering up with the bike on and i have to put the battery hook up on the power commander to get it going. im wondering what part of the hook up did i go wrong or do i need to like charge the power commander for a certain amont of time. im not sure about this so any help would be awesome thanks.

You are right, the power commander doesn't work on itself, it need to be on a charger (9volts - the adapter is provided with the PCIII) or you need to start your engine to aliment your PC.
I will complete my post with this short and useful notice.

you don't need to plug in the 9 volt for it to turn on. Your motorcycle should power it. You did something wrong if it doesn't work with just the motorcycle power.

Mine is an 03. It was pretty simple. I hooked the black harness up to the bikes black and the other one up to its equivalent harness. And then I hooked up the ground to the ground on the battery terminal. You know that the power commander itself won't have any lights on at all while it is running? What makes you believe that the power commander isn't working?

I will say: no (map is store in the pc)/no (you need external power to make adjustements)

ok i think im good then if no lights are suppose to come on ijust thought it wasnt working because when u put the 9volt battery to it it lights up and when its hooked up to the bike it dosnt. but i mean i can feel the difference when its plugged in comared to not. the bike deff. runs smother when its plugged in. the no lights thing just had me nervous

maybe others can clarify. Mine is mounted underneath my race tail. It would be a PITA to take that off and my battery is out of the bike for the winter. I don't remember any lights being on the actual pc. If you feel a difference, then it sounds like you don't have the pc hooked up right. I'd start over using the tutorial to see where you went wrong.

let me clarify. If you feel a difference with the 9 v battery hooked up as compared to when it is unhooked, then you have a problem and most likely have the pc hooked up wrong. Can you load a map without the battery hooked up and the bike running?

is a Power Commander something everyone should consider installing?

i'm new to bikes in my familly everyone has been riding longer then i have and the PC is mentioned now and again that that should be my first mod. am i going to notice an improvement in the bike or should i put some more miles on my R6?

and by new i mean i've only got a 1000 miles of street riding and less off.

I just installed mine today and I was wondering why would you bother to put it on the tail section, where it's so damn inaccesible!?
I rather put it over the battery, only need to take the seat out,and I put styrofoam pieces to hold it steady.

Although I was looking around, and I may actually put it right next to the instrument pod, since the cables are long enuff. The ground cable can be jumpered to the battery quite easy.
What do you think?
Another idea I had was to just leave the USB cable connected and put a female "port" on the body of the m/c.

Sheesh I'm just finding ways to have it there when I want to,not need an tools or whathever to fiddle with the damn thinggie!!! :sing I'm an electronics tech, cant'help but to jump at things !!!

OK:EDIT
I change the location of the PC,because of concerns of heat,I put it in the tail section as they recomend, but I leaved the USB cable connected, and routed it along with the Q/S and PC cables to just under the seat, where I can hide the cable under the pressure of the seat, for acces to the PC w/o having to remove anything at all.Remember I'm talkin track bike here, with no "trunk" whatsoever hence my constant concern about acces. YEAH BABY!

Hi, the PC is highly recommended when you start adding stuff like full exhaust, air filter, etc.. i don't believe you will notice any difference if you keep you bike with the standard elements. The PC is managing the ratio of fuel just better that the original system can do when extra parts are added to your bike.

ok cool, i'll keep that on the list for when i start making changes to things on the bike. Thanks.

As they are not marked (i think), you need to take care and just follow the steps one by one.. like that you will directly find the right one by the position of the ECU etc.. (I know it doesn't help.. but when i have connected mine, I remembered that I had the same issue.. and if it works today.. that means that it's not so difficult.. because I am not so good :sing )

i am looking into getting one and just tryin to get clarified on the 9Volt part

Do you need the 9V ONLY when hooked up to laptop... or all the time while riding
