I have an 05 R6 and I'm trying to find a way to tune the ECU a bit. It's not a race bike at all, it's a stunt bike.
I'm not looking for more power. I'm trying to change the On/Off feeling the throttle has when I'm rolling on. I've heard slide stops help with that, but hunting down a set of graves now is almost impossible. I've found some DIY post here that show you how to make it out of piping but that's just too complicated for me. I'm thinking about just removing the springs and gluing the stops all the way back. I'm also swapping my throttle tube for a 2015 FZ tube because they have a longer twist so it'll be smoother instead of being fast to full throttle. The people with newer FZs do the opposite and change it for the R6 tube to have a shorter and faster twist to WOT.

Anyway. Is there a way for me to tune my ECU for a smoother roll-on from closed to slightly open throttle? And to reduce engine braking a bit?
I have a PC3, K&N filter, full Leo Vince exhaust.

ahh ok. I seen someone complain a few years ago 2015 or 16 and said that he couldn't get it to work from his phone tethering. it said the software can't open.

the woolich software can do auto tune but it doesn't do it continuously like yours. it records all the info from a few rides and uses it to build a static map. it does a great job of it. I can feel a difference in the midrange. it also allows you to set a target afr. so if I wanted it at 13 (I actually did) it tunes the map to use 13 where it needs to. it also eliminated 100% of the popping on my R1. I kind of liked the gurgling pop on downshifts and it's gone now

the R1 just sounds so amazing banging and popping on down/up shifts. the R1 stock doesn't even open the throttle to 100%. I made sure that got fixed too

You can Hotspot your phone to your PC and then you can use FTecu as I have done it plenty using my IPhone for internet access.

BTW if anyone is still on the fence with woolich over FTECU. I'm going to have to say go with FTECU. woolich has been great with their support but they took their forum down. well it's there but it has no sections for users to discuss anything. they said no one was helping others with issues so they took it down. that's hogwash. now no one can chat and share info about the system and talk about tuning etc. this made me pissed off when I noticed it gone. so next bike i'm getting FTECU stuff. it has way more users and a forum. I just hate the fact you can't use it offline and it will not tether from a phone's internet.

why? you have access to a few maps you can try. and you can download maps from other users. ftecu has maps they've made and tested on bikes that get raced. so the maps should be pretty decent. if you send it out you will have to pay another $150 when you just spent $400 for the kit. it's not hard at all to flash. follow the on screen instructions in the software and it's idiot proof. if you've ever sent maps to a power commander it's basically the exact same procedure. except it takes a little longer for the software on your laptop to erase and flash the ecu.

I bought a ftecu kit, but Iím still may send it to BAUCE for the enitial flash. I may even get a second echo just to mess around with.

i am 99 % sure the responsivness is from the ecu mod. added the full exhaust and air filter had made my bike jerky until the ecu flash (not dramatically, but the fix was very noticible once the ecu was mapped)...

I sent mine in to Bauce Racing but I installed it alongside a full exhaust, block off plates, air filter, so it's hard to say what really contributed to the difference. This being said I have experienced a VASTLY smoother and more responsive throttle and less engine braking (stock engine braking is over the top, it's much better now). I also had them disable EXUP and AIS, increase my idle to 2,000rpm, lower the fan trigger temps, and set the fuel mapping to my specific bike year and exhaust/air intake setup. I was pretty happy with the way the bike felt when I got it. Now that I've got the flash and the exhaust I am absolutely over the moon in love with it. Definitely recommend the flash, absolutely worth the $$$. Especially if you have mods that require a tune.

it's debatable. you can do more with the flash than you can with a piggyback system such as a power commander.
not only can you modify the fuel mapping you can adjust things that yamaha made adjustable in the ecu.
some bikes have more than others. but some examples are fan temp adjustment when it comes on and goes off. you can change what rpm the upper fuel injectors start working, what rpm the intake track changes length. ignition timing, turn off the trouble code warning light for the exup valves. and a few other things I can't remember. some of the newer bikes 2017 and up you can use the flashing software for diagnostics. since starting in 2017 the euro 4 emissions put a stop to the bike having a built in diagnostics. (thank europe not usa for ruing the bikes).

I chose to buy the flash kit myself. now I can run a auto tune at any time and change the fuel mapping. or make any changes I want to everything else. which on the R1 is a lot of stuff. I went with woolich because unlike FTECU you don't need internet access to use it. (dumb as hell move FTECU).
so keep that in mind if you go with ftecu, if you're at a track and have no wifi you can't do anything to your bike. especially if you're having some kind of issue and need to change the settings. you're shit out of luck.

so long story short, yes it makes a difference. will it make your bike gain 10 hp? no. could you theoretically gain 10, yes as long as you know what you're doing and have access to a dyno.


however, there is a risk with flashing a ecu. not many people have problems but it has happened. some yamaha's have a immobilizer anti-theft system. if it locks up it bricks the ecu while being flashed. a company in england used to advertise they can fix the ecu if you brick it. I don't recall their name.
some guy on this forum bricked his ecu on a 2004. I honestly never heard of a 2004 being able to be flashed so it may be riskier to try it to ones below 2006. I have a 2015 R1 and it didn't flash properly once. the bike would not start. I flashed it again and it was functioning normal. so it can happen and it can **** it up.
