so i went with a custom 48 tooth rear from sprocket specialists and a 15t steel front on the stock 525. bike feels great and is crazy fast.

one issue though.

the chain is super tight. i mean i didnt have to pry the axle in. it lined up perfect ( put the chain on front and rear sprockets and then tapped the axle in), but there is no room for adjustment. its pretty much as far forward as it can go. there is a TINY bit of play if you push on the chain, but definitely no slack.

i keep hearing that this will wear the sprockets faster if i keep it tight. true?

dont ride it, you will damage the bearings and bends the shaft that the front sprocket is fitted to. The chain is gona be eveb tighter when your sat on it

really? i mean its not pulling like i said, there is just no slack.

whats a good cheap chain then that i can install at home?

mate i dont know a lot about bikes but i know that a tight chain aint good, you should have 30/40mm of play at the tightest point ,this should be stated in your owners manual. I would phone your local bike specialist and ask them if you dont get many replys here mate.

Yeah, just because there's no "pull" on it when you feel it doesn't mean there's no pull when you're riding. That's when it matters. That's why you need slack in it when it's sitting still. That much tension will definitely wear out your sprockets faster, and like baker p said, it could [potentially] damage more. As for a "good cheap chain," those two words don't really do together Maybe you could just add links to your current chain? But I've never done anything like that, so I'm not too sure about how easy it is.

Dude, loosen the chain ASAP. Not only can it ware out the sprockets, but it's possible that the chain could even snap give the right circumstances.
