Previous owner of my r6 told me it needed a oil change and air filter how do you know when your bikes needs an air filter change bike has 6800 miles and also how often do you change your oil I used mobil 1 4t is it the same as any other oil or do you go longer on full synthetic I don't ride it much at all maybe 1500 miles a year

In you situation 4T oil is fine, other people use 10W 40. I would recommend full synthetic oil though. General rule is to change your oil and air filter every riding season (depending on how you ride) in your case changing the oil once a year is fine. As for you air filter I would recommend a K&N air filter. That way you don't ever have to change it, you just have to clean it. They run any where from $50-$80 but the are a "permanent" air filter. Just clean it at the beginning of every riding season. Again this is JMO.
