So I'm at the hospital because my best friend is having a baby boy, and of course I parked in the parking garage. So I go to leave and my bike is not parked the way I left it. I go to check it out and the first thing I do is feel the frame slider, and paint flakes come off on my fingers. So I got to inspect my bike further and find that the left side of the tail is cracked pretty bad. (Don't ask how this isn't the first thing I saw.) I then notice that my mirror is scratched and bent inward, and my clutch lever has been rotated downward and is making contact with the body. My crank case is also scratched. So at this point I'm about ready to hang someone for knocking over my bike. There were no notes. Definite hit-and-run.

I reported the incident to security. They of course didn't help much. They just took pictures (which I had already done). I then spoke to the parking attendant that was there at the time of the hit-and-run and he said it happened between 12:30pm and 12:35pm. I then spoke to security again and they said they would review the surveillance tapes. Next I called the police department, who refused to do anything because it happened on private property. The last thing I did was contact my insurance (State Farm) and to file a claim. Luckily it falls under Uninsured, so my deductible is only $300. My fear was since they don't have any proof (yet) that I didn't do it, that it would fall under Collision, and my deductible would be $1000 AND my insurance rates would go up.

So I gotta go take it to a shop tomorrow and get a quote, not to mention I now have to figure out how I'm going to get to and from work everyday since my transportation will be in the shop.

I really hope they catch this person, and I think there's a pretty good chance that they will. And when they do, I'll throw the book at them.

Oh, and I forgot the worst part. I started it up because I figured it was only cosmetic damage so I could ride it home. WRONG. Blue smoke came out of the tailpipe for about 5 seconds (burning oil) and the engine rattled really bad. I shut it off immediately. I just hope they don't total it, or I'm out a lot of money.

Anywho, here are some pics:

I had something similar happen the end of last summer in the parking lot of my apartment. Ended up costing almost 3000 bucks. Fortunately, insurance covered all but the deductible (state farm at the time as well). SF just took their time in getting someone to the shop to approve the repairs/estimate because they don't consider a motorcycle as high priority...they consider it a recreational vehicle and not transportation. Mine was finally fixed but it took almost 2 1/2 months.

In mine, someone backed into it and knocked it over on its right side. Funked up all of the right side plastics, broke the right side peg, snapped the right side clipon off and cracked the mirror. I was PISSED. But now, it is all better and I am happy...good luck man! Been there, know how you feel!

that looks pretty minor IMO, i would get the money, the parts, a 12 pack, and do it myself, you dont have to take it to the shop to change the tail fairing or any of that.

Shitty that people dont fess up to that... gl w/ the fix

if u technically wanna get all CSI on their a$$, i'm sure when they lifted the bike back up they left fingerprints everywhere. :nocontrol if the exhaust wasn't blowing blue, i'm positive that bike is not totaled. i still don't think it will be...

So to answer a few questions:

1. No, they did not pick the bike back up. Someone found it laying on its side and told a lot attendant, and then the two of them picked it back up.
2. There is no way it could have fallen over by itself. I make sure it's firmly planted on the ground every time I park it.
3. There were some red paint flakes on the rear brake as well as a white smudge. But these could be from anything. (Pics below). I think that someone just came around the corner and clipped my tire. It sticks out the furthest on the back, anyway.
4. No, Hit-and-run is a Class III Misdemeanor. (One step away from a Felony)

Since the police refuse to help, I'm gonna have to sleuth this one on my own. The security guys aren't being too cooperative, either, so I guess I'll just have to have my lawyer write them a letter asking them to cooperate. That might do it.

The thing that hurts most, though, is that I don't have any transportation anymore. I guess I've become too dependent on my Six.

So I was looking at it again, and I think the engine rattling might be coming from a broken engine mount or mounting bolt. My left frame slider, which used to be rock solid, is now slightly moveable. I really hope that's all it is.
