yes, a bad cam chain tenstioner (CCT) will sound different throughout the rpm range. mostly due to exhaust noise etc... it will clatter the most and most noticeable from 2000rpm's to about 5000rpm's.

i know what you mean mate it makes a whirring sound i noticed straight away when i first started me 6.....!

i heard a few others and they do it to i rebuilt engine with different cams etc.. and still does it
