I need names of hotels that are close to the area. I thought Maggie Valley was close but its 50+ miles away. Going in April, so thanks for the help.

its not a hotel, but i ALWAYS stay in the cabins at "The Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge" (link to their website) http://www.ironhorsenc.com/maps.html ...
They have GREAT facilities, and they have breakfast and dinner every day and the prices are great. (especially if you take a couple buddies)
Look them up/check them out. They're great people and you'll go back for sure if you stay there. I stay there every time I go up.

Cheers

You can always just stay in the hotel that is at the store.
+1 Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, but they are closed for the season. You can probably contact them through the web site. http://dealsgap.com/
Also there are a couple of no-tel motels in Maryville, TN close to the bottom of the hill.

Princess Hotel
2614 US Hwy 411/129 S, Maryville, TN

411 Motel
2651 US Highway 411 S
Maryville, TN 37801-8637
(865) 982-5361

These two are cheap motor lodges, but they seem OK as I pass by, and they are close to resaurants and shopping (Walmart and such).

Also, heres a link to a few places on the North Carolina side.

Shoot me a PM when you are in town. Hopefully I won't be out fo town for work an we can meet up for a ride.

:werd Sums it up right there. I hear real men just sleep on their bikes and put tire warmers over themselves though. Just a rumor

There are several in Robbinsville, NC. This is the closest city to the Gap. You might try searching Robbinsville and Graham County. Also, you have Fontana Resort which is even closer to the Gap.

I've stayed at Phillips Motel a few times in Robbinsville, for the money, it's a decent place to lay your head at night... Over on Rt28 there is a new place called "Off the Deep Inn", it is small cabins right off 28, stayed there in October, nice facilities but 12 miles from Robbinsville and about 15 miles from the dragon..

There's also a little place called Punkin Center... it's past the overlook on the Tennessee side of the Dragon, at the corner of 72 and 129. Nice little place with only I think 8 rooms, but last time I was over there it was $35 for 2 people, and they have a good BBQ (and other food) thing there too

As long as the weather is decent I always just set up my tent and camp out at the Deals Gap resort.... $12/night and you're right there. My next choice would be Robbinsville though... that way you're at least close to restaurants and whatnot. Two Wheel Inn in Robbinsville is freakin' awesome.... owners are cool as hell and each room has a little garage for your bikes

Ive stayed at the Best Western in Townsend. Sleepy lil place where you can roll the bike right into the room without a hassle. Only a few miles from the Foothills or about 15 miles from Gatlinburg. Not much in nightlife there... so Alcoa is probably your best bet for that.

Price was $40/night includes breakfast.

Guess its called teh Valley View lodge now. (865) 448-2237

I have to call in March, they closed before I could call. Plus they are sold out by now.

robbinsville is the best place to stay. plenty of places to eat etc. plenty of hotels. and right up the road if you rather camp there are campgrounds too.
don't know about showers at the campground though.,
I prefere to stay at the philips motel. it's not luxury but it's cozy.
