i was checking around specs on r6(r6s)s and found out 05 and 06 r6 have 120/70 front tire size. but all other 03, 04, 07, 08, r6 & r6s have 120/60 stock. they all have dunlop but why different sizes?
this is wierd to me because i already have changed my 04 to size 120/70 and raised rear with 2 large washer that raised about 4mm but why would those two years would yamaha have them size 70 and go back to 60 after.
can anyone explain this or was there any reason why? im just so curious because i read forums and everyone pretty much said going for 120/70 is not a bad change exept raise the geometry to accomdate the higher front.

so i'm guessing those two years that the tires came 120/70 have different setup than other years? i'm just confused. :dunce:

and for those who have changed to 120/70, did u guys raise 4mm or whats the exact masurement did you guys raise the rear or drop the front.

What it boils down to was looks. Seriously. Yamaha used the 60-series because it looked better than the 70-series to someone. However, it also caused a well-known problem for trackday riders and racers: the front end felt funny and didn't handle quite right while riding at the limit with the 60, so they were switching to a 70 anyway. For 05, Yamaha finally decided to do it right and put on the 70 as well as make some minor tweaks to the frame, which vastly improved the overall balance of the bike. But when they decided to make the R6S out of that body style, they kept the frame setup from 03, including the front tire. This time it was cheaper, I guess.

The 05 R6 came with a 120/70-17 front and a 180/55-17 rear.

The ZX-6R came with a 120/65-17 front for a while, but I can't remember if they still do or not.

like above, 05 r6 and 06 r6s have 120/70 stock front but rear is same for all r6s.
so on those two year r6s did they drop the front by little or what?

It was probably taken care of with the tweaks they did on the frame for the 05.
