Finally got my hands on my brothers r6. It’s been sitting since 2009 garage kept till 2014 where it’s sat in a field with a tarp over it. I’ve finally been given the ability to pick it up and start working on getting it street legal again. I know it won’t be an easy job and I know to most it may not be worth it but there’s a lot of sentimental value to it and I would love to hear the engine run again. If I could get some input on what I need to look for and replace on this bike that would be highly appreciated. I’ve done small engine work on 4-wheelers and such but those are alot simpler so any advice would be appreciated. It will be my first motorcycle however I don’t plan on trying to learn on it I know these bikes can be tough and I’d rather not lay it down after working on it for however long it takes.

the simplest first step is remove the spark plugs and verify the engine turns over.

if it seems extremely dry, might want to do it by hand.

if its at least been turned on to idle from time to time. then you're ok just cranking the engine over to get the fluids flowing, but be sure to remove the spark plugs first as you will eliminate most of the cylinder pressure when cranking, reducing drag coefficient on anything metal.

Yeah I haven’t tried to spin it over yet but I did hook up a battery to see if it has any power and it doesn’t so there’s something wrong between the battery and either the regulator, fuses, maybe a chewed wire, and if I’m super unlucky an ecu issue. I did however get some marvel mystery oil so when I take the plugs out I can let the cylinders soak for a couple days before I even try to check the engine because I’m not trying to have to do rings or score the walls more than they may already be from sitting
