Flashing oil light after wreck

1838 Views 14 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  deez
I wrecked over the weekend, bike went into ditch and hit a tree headon.
It is going to be totalled by insurance and I am wondering if I should buy it back salvage. The swingarm, frame, motor dont have a single scrath. All the plastics are lightly scratched, forks may of got tweeked, dash ripped off. Anyways the oil light is flashing now nonstop, what does that mean??? Oil level is fine

no body has a clue??? Its not in the manual and I did a search and they all came up saying to check the oil level which is fine. Where is the oil pressure sensor at?
You need to reset your bike's computer. Use your user manual to find out how to do that. That is done by pressing your instrument a certian sequence/combination.
if i was you i'd buy it back. new front ends are around $500 and you can always find cheap fairings
I Started it up and it smokes now. the oil level is ok. when i pull the clutch lever in and put it in 1st gear, while still holding clutch lever I cant stop the rear wheel from spinning, I guess the clutch is not fully disengaging?

Couldnt find anything on resetting the computer in manual.

I would like to buy it back and fix it, but I dont know about it smoking and the clutch issue, that might cost to much to fix.
Is the smoke white? If it's white you have water getting into your oil.
it is white, guess that means there is a crack somewhere in the block/head?

That isn't good for sure. There are a few places water can get into the oil. So it isn't necessarily a cracked head or block. Hard to tell without seeing it.
All I know is that I QUICKLY have to figure out if I am gonna buy it back or let the insurance take it.

Does anybody know what a flashing oil light means???

How do you clear the pcm???

How does water enter the oil, and then how does that get into the combustion chamber?
dude if u got full coverage let the insurance take that bucket off ur hands. it will never be like new... get the check and get a new one id say.
Well I wont get any money out of it, I will be out my $500 deductable total.
I am guess I will be getting a new one once I get all healed up, They have both a 2008 R6 and 2008 R1 on sale by me now

good luck on the new bike, feel better. im just healing up from some road rash on my right arm... falling suckss
i bet you the smoke is from laying it over and will probably stop once you burn all the excess oil out of the cylinders.

i too would like to know how to reset the light. mine has flashed since before i got it.
anyone work out how to stop this red oil light from flashing. mine does it too for some reason, plenty oil. i think its like roughly 8 flashes also, then pause, then away it goes again.
