Did you...

make sure the hand grips are far up enough on the bars (not too far though), so the threads on the bar ends can catch the threads inside the handle??
well why did you take off the bar ends for. they dont have to come off. but i really cant see why they arent going back on, unless its like what lvbluer6 said above
:laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh

you guys are funny
Get a flashlight, and see if the nut went up into the bar.
I had to recover a condom like this once...
No seriously, Maybe the female part of the bar end got sideways or went up into the bar.
When the bar-end came off was there a piece of rubber on the end that the screw went into? It should be about an inch long. if not, you can look into your bar, and see the rubber piece...if it is in there, it needs to come out. The screw goes through that rubber to a nut, and when you tighten it down, the rubber becomes squashed in the bar, and is tight. If the rubber is still in there, then good luck getting it out. The nut is loose, and on the other side of that rubber piece. When you take the bar ends off, just loosen them up a little bit, and pull. If you loosen it all the way until the screw comes out, your screwed...literally.

hahah thanks for all the replys... i had to pull the rubber part out and get the nut... and super glue the nuts to the rubber part and stick them back into the bars.... that way i can screw it back in with out it "GOING SIDEWAYS"...
hey i got another question... so when u get new grips you don't have to take off that bottom part???
