How do I attach helmet to bike?

25066 Views 31 Replies 24 Participants Last post by  MD06YZFR6
I have a 2003 R6 and I want to be able to attach or preferrably lock my helmet to my bike when I am not riding. The manual shows two hooks on the underside of the passenger seat, but I have no idea how that is supposed to work.

Can you tell me how to use those hooks or tell me what you do to lock your helmet to your bike? Thanks.

its on the passenger seat, not the cowl. you just put the metal d hooks or whatever u call them on that little hook and let it hang
Sometimes the simplest things aren't so simple...
Here is a pic of my 04's Pass. Seat...

You have to open the thumb, and kinda have to look closely but...

Red circles are where you connect your helmets D RINGS to... and then put the seat on the bike, locking them to the rear seat.

Blue circles are Luggage straps... You can use bungees on these to hold your junk to your bike.

Is there any sort of compartment wehre I can store my keys and cell or something on the bike? I really don't wanna bite the asphalt and get stuck with my keys or break the cellie.

It's under the passenger seat or crowl.
not to make fun of you but if you have to ask this question you mite want to take a class before getting on the street. but good luck with it.

you could get a murse for all ur stuff
I wouldn't put a cell phone in the compartment though. I put a pair of cheap sunglasses in there and they broke :(

Not entirely sure why me not knowing where the compartment is on the bike (that i've just bought) has to do with my driving abilities.

but ehh, whatever. i wasn't sure cuz i tried poppin it off and i dont wanna bust the damn thing.

I don't see how I was ripping a new guy. I just made a suggestion that might help the guy. But, I guess a DH could read something into anything. O yea sorry about the misspelled word guess I should had edited my post like you had too.
I have a murse, cashmoneyflow, but I don't need it when i'm sporting my fanny pack. They both match my bike by the way. Can't figure out why nobody wants to ride with me?

You need to unlock the rear seat before you try to remove it. there is a key hole on the underside of the tail.
i feel like when i put the D rings right into those plastic hooks, it puts a lot of pressure on the paint.. I think ive put a few knicks in the paint cause of it.

This summer i was planning on rigging up some sort of metal coated in plastic like bike locks and be able to put it through the visor area... that way people cant cut the cloth straps on the helmet like ive been told people do.... they'd need some bolt cutters to get it instead.. Why cant people just not steal stuff... life be way less stresful

x2

also i was going to put the cell in the compartment. then i remembered a friends storys and asked myself what happens when i go down or some one hits me etc etc, your laying in a ditch broken leg cant move traffic driving right by you your bike is on the other side of the road and your cell is under the cowl. idk about you guys but id rather my last move be reaching into my pocket and dialing 911. not that i intend to go down, but i feel you have to be prepared for the worse case scenario, and these days you never know when someone will just wipe you out on the highway. just my .02 take it for what you may.

the friends story is this, guy went down at night on the highway. bike and him went into the median, he was so banged up leg absolutly destroyed he could not move and layed there screaming for hours to attempt to call for help. sence it was a highway cars are moving 55-60 mph steady. some one finally heard him but it just shows it could happen to any one of us. carry your cell with yeah, dont be worried about it scratching or getting banged up if you go down, least youll be able to call for help.

i take back what i said about making paint dings.... well it did, but its cause i was a DUMBASS.... today i tried to put my helmet on my bike before i went to class.. and i noticed that my helmet has padding on the strap that is longer than the d rings... so as long as that material is between the metal and paint, things work out fine... was nice not having to carry my helmet around campus all damn day

<--- stupid newb
I have noticed that if you ride with the helmet hanging there, it will scuff the plastics up. Good for holding onto it while parked, but bad to ride with one there.
how do u do it on an 08...it has some viynle but i dont entirly trust that froomm falling or ripping.
the 08 passanger seats should be narrow enough that all you have to do is fasten the chin strap on the helmet loosly enough that you can slide the seat in between the chin strap and helmet then lock the seat back in place
