Ok Im new to riding just got a black 08 R6. I went to try out some gear today and I have a few questions before I go and order anything online. I tried an Icon deviant helmet XL and it was a very snug fit. Then I tried out a Shoei re1000 in an Xl and it felt way too loose, so I tried a L and that one was snug but the inside padding was very soft compared to the Icon. Do I want a good fit right off the bat or do I need to account for break in??? Ok I know this is getting long but I have a questions about jackets also, I tried a joe rocket textile jacket in M and it seemed to fit well but it seemed a little short to me. Are these supposed to fit that way? the L seemed way too long on the sleeves. Well I really would appreciate any help.

Well noob, you have a big head, yes the helmet should be snug because of break in, but not tight that it squeezes your cheeks together, read manual of helmet or go to website of the manufacture and measure your head and go off they size charts, for best results. You feel comfortable in the helmet. Jackets-leather jackets offer the best protection, unless you ride AZ everyday...sliding down the road with your back and arms the road will eat up that mesh jacket and you'll be crying for mommy when the doctors scrub the dirt out you road rash. I have seen others and myself with leather jackets crash and come away rash free. I have a winter jacket and summer jacket, both leather, my summer have more perforations in it and open collar to let air in. Jacket sleeves are a little longer so when your on the bike and bend your arms it cover all the areas. Jackets should have a chest size on them 46,48,50, etc. Again measure your chest, and do the same thing as with the helmet. If you live in a cold climate, like me, my winter is a size bigger, because the liner is not going to cut it. So the size bigger gives room to put a sweat shirt on.
