Well I decided to go out for a ride today somewhat take it easy and just find a few roads with some twists and cruise around. On my way back is when I decided to get on the gas some. So the freeway starts about 300 yards from this light. I take off from the light wait until I pass the cars going about 50 hit the freeway and just balls to the wall. I get up to about 120 or 130 I think and my handle bars start flapping back and forth like mad! First thing I thought was, oh god I'm going down. I swear it felt like 5 seconds but dunno how long it actually was but some how I got it back under control and saved it. I don't ride with a stabilizer but I will surely invest in one now. Aside from some slight bruising on my left knee and right ankle I'd say I'm very lucky things didn't go all the way south on that trip.
Just wondering does anyone else like to ride really fast going through the gears without a stabilizer? I knew I should have bought one a long time ago but ever since this I will for sure now.

Yes..lol

be lighter on your hands...as in dont hold your grips too tight

it was probably from shifting, and going full throttle..you might have pulled your handles slightly to the right. if that makes sense

Scary, it hasn't happened to me I keep the front end heavy but I beleieve the correct thing to do when this happens is to get back on the throttle to lighten up the front end and try another 'touch down'.

Ya that makes sense. I know that almost always shifting at 15k+ the front end tends to lift on me and I most likely pulled in one direction and when it set back down it wasn't straight. It actually got so bad my left hand and almost right hand came off the handle bars. The throttle was like stuck down I couldn't adjust my hand to give it gas or get off it felt like. After I got off the freeway my front break was dead coming up to a light then I pressed it a few more times and came right back, dunno what that was all about though, maybe air in the line?

I would have been terrified... I should have bought a cruiser, I honestly do not ride fast ever...I do however go zero to 60 in 3 seconds lol...I have mastered the 'wide open pig teaser' as I call it...

Shadow where in Michigan you at???????

Anyway glad your alright and yea I bet that was scary!

Just one word of caution about the steering damper. I had one on my old bike and when I was on the freeway it locked up and didnt allow me to steer at all causing me to crash! It was a Scottz damper and when I called them and told them what happened they said "Oh yea that can happen sometimes if you go over a bump of something the gears inside will lock up" So that was great

There are plenty of threads on different dampers. They all do the same thing. Brands are mostly a preference. I have an Ohlins on mine and it works great! Just do a search...

Didn't have quite the tank slapper you did but when I first got the bike right after hitting 500miles I got on it coming up an on ramp here and as it straightened out at about 110 in 3rd it started to shake pretty good but after letting off of it a bit it came right back to me. They have a bunch of those grooved roads her that "help with water" so I thought that was the main factor but guess not.

Seriously?!? there's a nice little road where i live that starts out REAL twisty and goes straight flat for about 8 miles. NEVER see a cop out there, either, as it is between two counties and no one wants to get out that far.

I REGULARLY hit 130-140 out there and NEVER have had so much as a shimmer... the concept actually surprises me a little... I'm curious as to how this whole phenomenon gets started... I'm on it pretty hard, often lift the front in 3rd... although I'm a little more smooth on the throttle in 4th- 6th..

Am I just lucky so far, or what am I doing different?

My bars only seem to scare me sometimes when i accelerate to redline in first and second after that it is smooth sailing to redline in all gears
