To all,
I joined this forum because I'm at a cross roads in my life.

The time has come to choose.

I have found a deal on a flipped 04 R-6. It just needs a new upper, and some small stuff all for $3,400. Not to mention that it has only 1k miles. No brainer right?

I have a 98 R-1, Dyno 143 HP, with out taking in account the ram air . I've had it since we cracked the crate. ( paid off ) Dumped seriouse$$ into it.

On the track everyone says I've got good cornerspeed, and would probally rock a 600. The thought of starting all over again and only getting back around 100hp kills me. Wife says one bike. So the question is- is it worth it. does a modern six s' handling and weight make it worth the trade off? Would apprecaite thought s of the collective. sorry for the length of the post. :confused

i would try to convince the wife to have 2 bikes, R1 for street use, and the R6 strictly for track use. for me i still keep up and sometimes beat the liter bikes my friends use with my '03 at the local spot. but if you could only have one bike, i say keep yours. its already paid off.

A properly built 6 will make more than 100HP. My shop showed me a dyno run from an '04 R6 with a Graves slide stop kit and Akra full exhaust that is making 111HP. My bike with velcoity stacks and BF slip-on and PCIII is making 103HP.

Throw in a 520 conversion with -1, +2 gearing and your talking about a 6 that will HAUL ASS. Most 600cc bikes, with a good rider and it sounds like you are, can stay with liter bikes till past 100 mph in a straight line.

I agree with Stone, convince the wife that two bikes is the way to go. Buy her that Louis Vutton bag she has always wanted and maybe she will see things in your favor.

yeah the r6 is a corner carver and its updated as your r1 is a bit dated and I think the 04 r6 looks better

Most Def keep both... I'm sorry but the wife is just going to have to understand. Straight out the crate R1 you modified and paid off. A definate keeper for the streets. Buy that R6 and throw some race fairings on her and theres your "Track ONLY" bike. Just think... If you go down on the track and your bike gets :cuss up. At least you still have 2 wheels waiting at home. I sure wish I had a second bike right now. My r6 has been out for a month. Deals Gap accident. Waiting on back ordered shift shaft components.

I gotta second and third everybody else. The R1 is paid off so it doesn't count for anything against household expenses. It is a tad older but definately still a beast. Why would you get rid of it when it's paid off???? I say grab the 6 since you have experience with the 1 and use it for a track bike or just a beater. Fix it up with some shark skinz or whatever throw some matte paint on her and have fun. Hell you probably paid what $10G's for the R1....the 6 shouldn't be anything.

My advice... Keep the R1, Get the R6, get rid of the wife.... J/K
Definatley keep the 1, and try to talk the wife into the 6...
so basically, I agree with everyone else...

ok guys. I think I know what I need to do.

besides, a few months of peanutbutter sandwiches and no sex may be worth it in the long run.

Atleast I'll still have internet porn! :boob and the R-bro's :cheers

Update:

I'm lagit now. Proud owner of an 04 R-6

Looks like the first thing will be the 520 convert.

The slide stop looks doable, does any one have a power commander for sale?
