I just joined the forum and already need help with my 06 R6. I am looking into getting a mid-pipe and a new slip-on but I am confused about the headers. My confusion begins with can I use the stock headers? If I can, is the cat clamped on or do I have to cut it off? If I can't use stock headers does anyone now what I can do that won't burn a hole in my pocket book? Any help good or bad is greatly appreciated.

First off if you do a mid pipe install you'll have to do a powercomander for more fuel or your bike will run too lean. You'll have to cut the cat off, do a search on here and you'll find the how to on doing the change. Here's what I have and a few other members have. www.mjsperformance.com/r60608raceheader.htm
check it out!

There is a guy on ebay that sometimes sells a thing called a "T-Tuner Mid Pipe". it replaces the cat (you have to cut it off), and its only like $130. I put one on my bike, and it works well. The product is a little crude, so i had to grind a little on the inside to smooth everything out. I also wrapped the headers with heat wrap.
I dont have a Power Commander, and the bike definitely runs lean. I can tell b/c it runs hot all the time. But, it definitely makes more power up top and reduced a ton of weight.

Hey thanks guys, I think I am going to do that deal that squirrel suggested just because he will do all for me and that way Im sure it is done right. I have another question about the power commander. One of you say that you have to have it and another says you dont but it will just run lean. I know a power commander is in the future purchases but not right away. How will this treat my bike (good or bad)? I know it will run lean which means more heat but I probably wont be able to get a pcIII until I get enought saved up because with a wife and kid, it doesn't leave me with much play money! Thanks again guys really appreciate your help!

Mine ran so lean it would stutter on the highway. 17 to 1 air to fuel. The dyno guy said I would burn a hole in my piston if I kept riding it. So I had to get the techlusion for the fuel mangment. You can pick it up at motosport.com for a decent price. But I recommend the pc3.
