what kind of bike vin is rubbed out and no other id numbers except on the case i just bought a bike exactly like this

Yes but you can only be prosecuted if they can prove you received it knowingly. If you are really concerned about it being stolen you can call the police and have them run the vin.

Orrr, what most people do is just ignore it, especially since it's not a street bike, a child's bike at that, and there is no need to register it. Chances are if it was reported stolen the guy probably didn't know the vin anyway...
