So i was leaving work today and i forgot my work shoes so i was like "oh shit i gotta get my work shoes" so i got off the bike, but realized i forgot to put the kickstand down. As i realized this the bike was falling on me and i managed to grab it in time to let it gently to the ground.... Engine flooded and i drained my battery trying to start it. Damage wise I came out very lucky. My lower cowl is scraped a tiny bit and the top clip thing broke. about a half inch scrape on the engine case cover.... So i believe its not to bad just alot of work ahead!

Oil smells like gas from flooded gas going past the rings so oil is getting changed thursday. My question is, do i warm the engine first, or just drain it without out warming because the gas is in the oil?

Second when you are told that motorcycling is 90 percent mental and 10 percent skill believe it....

Funny thing is...... this was my fourth day with the bike...:lmao

at least it isnt too bad. i bet you wont do that again.
Sorry to hear. At least it wasn't too bad. Usually frame sliders will protect 100% from these type of situations. Should get some. :D
That happened to me once with my frist bike too. i would say drain the oil without warming it, who knows how the gas will react with the seals and oil. .02
yea i came out fairly lucky, lol i only had the ****er for 4 days!
same thing happend to me when i first got the bike..jumped off it without putting down the kick stand..a lesson learnt lol
so do you guys recommend not warming the oil?
Yup! never actually forgotten to put it down, but I've had it partly lift on me before after moving the bike around. Good lesson. Always check the kick stand!! I've gotten into the habbit of pulling the bike backward after parking.
never try to start the bike after you droped it. bring the bike up put the kickstand down take off the key or put it on the off position kill switch to off position and wait a few minutes to start it....so the computer resets its self
here's ur "dilemma". warming the oil makes it flow out more freely and takes out more crud along with it. however, u'd have to run ur engine with the gas in the oil and that's not a risk u need to be taking. on the other hand, cold oil won't completely drain all the gas in the engine but when u do the change, there will be such a low gas content in there that it should be fine. if u wanna play it super-safe, drain the cold oil, put in new oil, run for 5-10 minutes, drain again, refill, and put ur kickstand down. even if it doesn't need to be done, it's a $15 investment i'd be willing to make.

First time its ever happened, the bike flooded itself out and not thinking i tried to start it. Drained the battery and its almost charged, im temted to try and start it to make sure it runs. Im sure it will because it was gently just set down on the ground instead of slammed so im sure everything will be ok. Just the gas in the oil is kinda making me not want to try and start it.
it wont fing start......
Wait im lost. Someone fill me in on how you "flood" a fuel injected motorcycle.

If you "gently set the bike down" there is no reason whatsoever it shouldnt start back up. you must have lowsided it or something
2001 is not fuel injected....
and it did start to pop then my battery died god damn it.
Does the 01 have a tip over sensor? If so this may/could have something to do with it not starting.
everyone drops a bike somehow at least once.. hey you got your's out of the way ;)

Yeah I guess forgetting your kickstand isnt down is better than just legitly sucking at backing your own bike up and dropping it... (cough) Marshall (cough) :eek5
yup..had the kickstand bounce back up on me once, I dropped it. I heard hte clank like it went down, though it must een the bounce back up sound....sigh....JUST after I repaired the fairings to...lol....
Alright so i drained the oil and it smells like fing gas, before i did this i tried to start it and nothing. the first click over it wanted to start then died then nothing. So i get paid tomorrow and im just going to let it sit today and tomorrow and then friday im getting a new battery and some fresh oil.. This is so frustrating god damn it!
