Hey Guys,

I bought a used 06 r6r. I noticed oil leaking from the oil pump cover so I took it apart to figure out why. I've attached a picture of what I found. I'm sure the bike was dumped before, but it looks like the bolt actually ripped out the part of the bike that holds the thread. I have no idea what to do short of weld oil pump cover on and weld the holes closed, which if it ever went down and broke again would be a problem.

The cover and block are probably distorted a little... bent. Get a new gasket and pickup some RTV gasket maker silicon sealant from the auto parts store. The torque spec on those bolts is surprisingly low, but if what's left of the threads doesn't hold it, you'll have to do as 03r6Raven has suggested. Unfortunately there's nothing for an epoxy resin such as JB Weld to hold on to, so that option is likely out. (...and you don't want that breaking loose and floating around in your timing chain cover)

You could also have a nut with the same thread pitch/size welded on in that location, however that would require removing what is left and making sure the nut lines up with the cover hole.

Thanks for all the info! I have a cousin that does aluminum welding. Said we can clean it out well, build up the aluminum and then tap it, like what was suggested!

Said it shouldn't take too long!

I did try the rvt and new gasket, still leaking out of it unfortunately.

Yup. A good ol' cleaning to get the oil gone, a few dabs of some good filler rod, tap it to the correct size, and use a file or sandpaper with a block to make sure it's even (probably up to 2000 grit or so), and bolt it back up. Don't rush it.

Will do! Any advice for worrying about aluminum and junk getting into oil pump area? Just run the bike for 5 min after and do an oil change?
