So, I had a low-side and need to replace the timing cover on my '03. I've got all the parts ready to install but am wondering if I need to drain all the oil before I pull the cover or if there is a way to minimize oil loss during the repair? My oil change is only about 300 miles old. Lol

Can't speak to the 03 specifically but I wouldn't think you would need to. To be safe, just lean the bike against a wall. Use the bar end on the wall and put the bike in gear so it won't roll.

The ignition cover is above the oil level. There may be a little residual in there from the crash and drain back oil, but there is no need to drain the oil.

what he said.. 03-current (never had a pre 03 so no idea). same with clutch cover and stator cover, all 3 can be removed without draining oil.
