Does anybody know the default position of the exup valve plate should be opened at? When I look at mine it's about 75% open. Please help if you can. Thank You.

I have a 2009 R6

This is relevant to the R1, but there's the possibility that it may shed some light on it's principal operation...

>> ........ The valve should start to open from its closed position at 2000 rpm and be fully open by around 6000 rpm. At lower revs the valve restricts the exhaust gas flow improving the scavenging of the motor and increasing torque. Above 6000 rpm, the valve is completely clear of the gas flow and the system performs like any other non-EXUP® equipped exhaust.

Proper functioning of the valve is important to engine performance but, inexplicably, maintenance of the valve does not feature in Yamaha’s routine maintenance schedule. ..........

Having seen your post, this was the question & search phrase that came to mind...

Think that's backwards. With the bike turned off, it should be at about 25% open. I just hooked mine back up this weekend, so I had to do some digging on this.

Oh I am sorry. My exup is open at 25% at default. Thank you for all the info. I have a good idea on what's going on now.
