I ride with my high beams on all the time. It probably blinds some people but I figure it'll also get their attention so they don't t-bone me.

my question is if having your high beams on all the time is bad for your battery life. is it too much of a load on the alternator? a friend on mine thinks my bike's battery will die if i'm stuck in traffic.

Thanks ahead of time for any answers you guys might have.

I use my highbeam when its about 20 mins before or after sundown.... in the funny lighting conditions... then I only flick it on a few times when I am going through intersections at night..... that coupled with the bounciness of the bike, are a good warning method

girl: "yeah, it's way too bright. it was blinding me and you shouldn't be using that light b/c its way too bright!"
me:"sorry- it's the only one that works"
girl: "well... ugh... ya'know what... it's still too strong.... i can't even drive corr-"

I use mine all the time, day or nite, 15,500 rpm, 9K miles later, and one year later... and never had a problem with battery or stator.

same here, i use it all the time even at night. i could care less about those cagers think. at least they all know where i am. running the high beams all the time should never kill the battery when the engine is running. engineers like to play it safe and have some extra amps when everything is running like high beams, turn signals, ecu, etc... it would look bad for a manufacturer to have a bunch of new bikes come in for dead batteries.

yea..... i ride with my high beam on all the time.
I like the way it gets cars attention ...negative attention is better then no attention from the cars unless of course they are going to try to run me off the run cause of my high beam.
No problems with the battery so far

My high beams stay on all the time. If you were to look at my bike now, the light switch is on high. Like was said before, with them on, at least I know the cagers can see me. I had a guy cussing at me because they were so bright, I responded with "you saw me didn't you?" Been running my high beams all the time since June of 02 from 500 rpms to 15,500 rpms and no problems so far, just a little over 12,000 miles.

I thought that if you are at a standstill and have your highbeam on, and the fans come on your battery will die. Hehc I thought someone said that just the fans would kill the battery.... I don't mean that you have to turn it off at a stop light, but in a serious stand still is the problem.

If your moving I would think that you'd be fine.

9000 miles in a year. that's awesome. I'll probably only get 3500 miles on mine by the time this riding season is over, (although i did buy it in May...)

the only way i could see your high beams killling your battery is using those cheesy light bulbs on ebay. those xenon blue, red, green or any other of those crappy bulbs run with high watts. these wanna be HID bulbs suck, literally. besides these bulbs eventually will melt the plastics in the head light if you are lucky, if not they tend to melt the wires also.

I got 10,000 miles on my 03 in 6 months. I ride every day here in SD.

I also use my Highbeam all the time and even when the fan kick in.

Not have any problem yet. I adjusted the highbeam to point down to match the normal light. I only had one cager flash at me so far.

I have been using a set of eurodesignz lights for 3 full seasons of riding 15,000 miles and have not had one problem with them. and they run at the same wattage as stock bulbs.

i think its messed up to ride with the highbeams on at night time the lights are bright as **** and at night time they are brighter. the lights on the new bikes are plenty bright with just the low beam.

I always ride with my highbeams on too..it didn't kill my battery. I was riding one day and was following this guy for a few blocks. He suddenly stops. i start honking and he starts going again. then he stops again. he gets out of his car and walks up to me. By this time i put the bike in neutral and the kickstand down just incase i had to get off...he starts yelling at me for my lights being too bright and shit. we argue for a minute while traffic behind us backs up. He finally gets back in his car and drives off...

At least i know that high beams get peoples attention.

I also ride with my high beams on most of the time even at night...
but only to the point that there are not much cars around me.
But I usually hit it back to low baem when traffic is coming up ahead or
slowing down just to avoid any confrontations with cagers.
