hey guys, im looking into buying a salvaged bike with some pretty heavy damage to turn into a project bike.. I'll be getting a clean r6 in the next month or so but i'd also like to find a bike i could rebuild over the summer.

My biggest issue is finding a bike.. I've checked out ridesafely.com but that site seems kinda shady as its nearly impossible to see what your really getting and you have to have it shipped. Im located in southern california but im also out in phoenix a lot too. Does anyone have any good tips on finding a salvage bike in these areas?? I guess I would be willing to get one shipped to me if the owner had some good info and i knew what i would be getting..

Another issue is having to deal with a bent frame.. I've herd that they can be professionaly straightend but does anyone know if that could be cost efficent? how much would that run me?

I'd really like to do this right so feel free to give any other tips or ideas you have for me..

THANKS

Dr. Johns in anaheim charges 400-500 to straighten a frame and weld up any damage. Only thing is, if your frame snaps while he's straightening it, you're basically SOL. You can find alot of wrecked bikes that have bent forks and a tweaked subframe with no damage to the frame. I would look for one of those.

There are tons of them on craigslist.org.Just today i saw two.Plus Im sure you can locate one in your area.I would bother with one that has a bent frame, unless your going to replace it.Most though have much less severe damage.
