I have the same year as you, and had the same problem as you.
Just bend it a little further out and it wont give you a problem again. If you really want to bend it, take it off, stick it in a vise, use a small torch on it, and bend it after heating it up. That was what I did and never had a problem since. It may have been overkill, but it had pissed me off and I wanted to be sure it never had that problem again.
