So I wanna get a new Helmet. I'm coming from an el-cheapo HJC. I've been reading review after review on all kinds of Helmets. It seems like everyone says that the Shoei X-11 is the best thing since sliced bread. I dont have a problem spending money on a helmet, because my head is very important to me LOL! :) The only problem is I hate all the graphics, stupid dragons and throwing stars and shit. I'd like to get the solid black and have it painted to something I want it to look like. A good friend of mine does airbrushing and said he would do anything to it for me. I'd like to get a flat black though. I've only seen gloss black. Is that all that's available? Do I really have to buy a $550 helmet and just have it completely repainted? Just want some input on the helmet in general and maybe I've overlooked a flat black one somewhere? Anyone seen this?

Thanks

Patrick

I've ridden with the Shoei X-11 for about 6 months now ... using the "stupid dragon" graphic :D ... Well I like it at least :)

Honestly, its the best helmet I've ever worn / will wear. It's like going from dial up modem to DSL.. Once you use it, you'll never want to go back. Furthermore, protection is A+++. High sided into a ditch at 60 mph and didnt feel a darn thing, but im sure most helmets out there that are DOT/SNELL approved are well protected.

One problem i had with the X-11 was that at some certain angles you hear a whistling noise ... I'm not sure if it was my helmet particularly but I'll find out when i get my next X-11 comes in :toocool:

P.S. I've tried other helmets after my X-11 (RF-1000, Arai, etc...) Nothing felt as good as the X-11 ... but you know what they say ... Gotta test it out yourself

LOL!!! :) I dont mean any offense to your dragon graphics. Just not for me. I withdraw my "stupid" comment.

Has anyone seen a flat black one?

the X11 is a top quality helmet, but not everyone has a Shoei shaped head.
if u want a top of the line helmet, u should really consider all makers of top quality lids.
there is Arai, AGV, Shark, Shoei, and Suomy, there are others, but these 5 are the most popular and also used in Moto GP.
all of them bring awesome features to the table.

Suomy is very light and has insane graphics and vent well, but are loud inside.
Arai is one of the most comfortable and vent well, but they have more plain graphics and are also loud.
Shoei, the x11 is supposed to be the best ventilating lid on the market its also pretty quiet compared to the others, but its a bit heavier than the others and has the most generic graphics.
Shark is just as light as suomy, and has awesome vents while being still quieter inside than many others.
AGV has some sick graphics and are light but i dont know as much about them, but the Rossi lids are crazy.

try them all on if u can and make your choice based on fit 1st, then look into what u really want out of your helmet.

i own an Arai RX7 corsair, Shark RSI, and KBC VR2, the shark is my new favorite lid, its wicked light, and has a sweet face shield design.

529 is a decent price for a solid color, i have seen better deals before.
my friend got his blue Kato memorial helmet for that price brand new w/ the tags still attached to the chin strap on ebay.
if u wait for the right deal from a reputable seller and its NEW, i wouldnt hesitate to buy it there.

Im not a big fan of Shoei, I have the RF-1000 and I liked it until I bought my AGV. The liner of the Shoei looks and feels cheap. And I feel ya on the graphics too they are pretty lame.

Personally, I never liked the Shoei. Then again I've only tried a couple of them. Arai Corsair is the way to go.

When I went to my local shop, they told me that Arai's were a bit narrower than the Shoei's. Since I have a fat head, I didnt even try to stick it in an Arai. I think I'm gonna go back sometime this week and do so.

I love this helmet! And it matches my bike... LOL

Found it for $700 shipped from several online stores.
