Anybody that has ever had a few traffic tickets knows that is a bull crap law. If you are "popping a wheelie" you are already breaking about 3 seperate laws that they can bust you for, none of which are cheap.

1) wreckless driving - anytime your driving dangerously and I think this includes wheelies. Probably about $250 ish in most places and points on your driving record. You can tack on a little more if there is traffice in the vicinity.

2) loss of controle of a motor vehicle - If a cop sees you spinning your tires in a car or sliding through a curve or sliding to a stop you can get this nifty little fine. Im sure it works just as well if your on 1 wheel and your vehicle is equiped with 2. Normally around $150 ish in most places and point on your driving record. Again you can tack on a little more if there is traffic in the vicinity.

3) Speeding. Im sure you can pull a wheelie without speeding but at the same time if your on one wheel it may be hard to dispute anything the officer at the scene can come up with. $20 per MPH over the limit. 5MPH over usually cost about $100

So I can easily see where as most laws stand you can get a $500 ticket for a simple little wheelie. Already alot of guys I know will just run it out if they get a good shot at it. If the fine where $1000 hell I would have to take my chances with a fleeing as well.

In my opinion, if you pop a wheelie and no one gets hurt, no blood no foul. If on the other hand you hurt someone, well then its time to pay the piper. But stipid rules dont a better society make.

How many people are killed or injured by wheelies each year in FL...? NOT including the riders themselves that is...

I'd rather see a $1000 for using a cell phone or any one of the 8234789234 other distracting things motorists do that actually DO cause harmful accidents...

The problem with Making the fines to steep or taking people to jail for traffic offenses is it creates a I have nothing to lose attitude among more people.

Then more people end up trying to run causing a bigger problem than they currently have. Then the state says oh this has not fixed the problem so lets make the rules even stricter. This cycle continues until it starts to effect the average rider to the point where they can't even leave on a sport bike without being hassled by the police.

Anyone else notice the statistic they threw in their that can actually be used as a defense for motorcyclists. They say the number of registered motorcycles increased by 300%, whereas the number of crashes only increased by 75%, not as bad as the politicians would like you to think.
