Suppose I'll start the build thread as it's going to get interesting...

I'm starting with an 05 in really great condition. It has been tastefully modified by the PO which is one of the main reasons I was attracted to it.

Came with an Olson which is fantastic BTW... A red PUIG screen which is great but I'm probably gonna swap it for a black one. If anyone want's to maybe trade... and the Power Commander of course.

Few little things like red halo rings which was done by him and he did it clean. Lets see.. the seat was shaved and frame sliders. Eliminator and a few other little things.

First thing I did was remove the factory decals.. not a fan of them.. especially the chrome ones. Checked fluids and whatnot... will change the oil here this weekend. Overall a very clean, smooth running bike.

A few pics to document the beginning...

I am also going to be removing the tank protector as it's old and faded...

I want to get some shorter ASV levers but I had to tax and title it today which ran me $300 so I'll need to wait a bit. I hate the stock levers... might need to put some china/ebay ones till I can get the good ones.

Tires are also needed... few little cosmetic blemishes I'd like to take care of... mostly small stuff.

I'm currently stationed in Whidbey Island where it's constantly shitty outside... July/August i'll be out of the Navy and back in Denver CO. My younger brother is a tatoo artist and paints bikes. This is his R6... he has 3 different sets of fairings and tanks.. changes them out every once in a while.. I'll see if I can find more pics.

What looks black is actually this carbon fiber look he paints.. pretty cool. He has Black/Orange, Black/Blue and a Red/White.. can't find a pic of the red and white set.

So the plan is to order a set of fairings and obtain an extra tank and have him paint them.. I'll probably modify the fairings a bit as I'm pretty good with fiberglass and wanna try some things.

We haven't committed to any color or designs yet but we are tossing around white carbon fiber with black accents in the same tron theme... so he would lay down a pearl white and then add the carbon mesh look with a subtle pearl grey.

Then do the tron thing... but with matte black accenting

It's shitty out so I've been doing a few small things with my bike. First was re-working some of the aftermarket wiring. Some of the connections that were done by the PO weren't great. They were fine but I have higher standards when it comes to electrical splicing and whatnot. So I re-did them...

Then I pulled my rear pegs and cut off the little Jhook and exhaust mount.. then took a flap wheel to them and smoothed them out. For symmetry and aesthetics nonetheless.

Then I etched them.. I used some etcher that works well on aluminum. Once etched I painted with Rustoleum High Performance Enamel. Once they were dried I sprayed 3 coats of clear. I used a more professional 2-part clear coat that's been very durable for me in the past. It's also chemical resistant. It's dry to the touch in an hour and cures in 24. They'll be back on tomorrow.

I will eventually strip these and powdercoat them.. I'm going to get set up to powdercoat once I get back to Colorado. Shit now that I think about it maybe I should powdercoat them in the base housing oven right before I move out...

Painted mid fairing satin black last night, cleared it this morning. Also had some expanded steel lying around so I made some mesh inserts. They're alright I guess... they were easy and free so I thought I'd try them out.

So to update I got a chip in the paint on my rearsets.. even with the clear they didn't last long. Oh well.. they need to be powdercoated. I'm gonna look around for a guy to do it since i'm not set up to do it yet.

Also swapped in a black windscreen...

My brother did another paint job on his 04... here's a pic. I'm going to do something similar once I'm back in CO and have a new set of fairings and tank.
