Has anyone had problems with these breaking? Within the first year I've had both sides replaced. Now it hasn't been a year and they are broken again. I'm trying to contact yamaha customer service today. I don't see my self spending $77 to replace both sides. Need some advice soon.

i ve had the same problem time and time again...first, the little tab on the front snaps, and then just by rubbing your thighs on the plastic under braking, the rear tab that bolts on to the fuel tank will break too and then its useless...i got me CF tank sides a couple of days ago, not exactly as OEM as i would like them to be(meaning some tabs that would help are missing, if you buy CF make sure you buy from Mcarbon), i hope this was the last of it...

I broke both of the little nipples off the front part of the side covers. I guess i could just glue then down but it doesn't really bother me that much.

How are you breaking them? Mine are fine.
No. The guy at yamaha did say the plastic is very thin.
WTF that doent explain anything.

They are one of the most commonly broken pieces of plastics on the bike (minus wrecking that breaks fairings) from what i hear. Less leg pressure maybe. NO STOPPIES

Both mine are broken...i was thinking of doing the carbon fiber replacement. Sad to her those aftermarket ones are not as good. I would be interested in seeing if that reinforcement works.

Mine broke as well a few months ago, riding on the highway at about 70, 75 all of a sudden I felt a slap on the inside of my left thigh and looked down to see it get crushed by a passing car. Definitely looking into CF replacements, just wondering how it'll look with CF side covers but original plastic 1/2 of tank, maybe will replace all 3 with CF
