I just spent 1 hour searching in the "How To" section and the "track and riding tip/technique" section, to find LOTS of mixed suggestions and confusing advices for someone that may not have the need for such technique usage. The more I read, the more I'm confused. I seriously want to learn how to shift properly, obeying the law, at the same time keep the noise to the minimum, and also maintaining my bike's clutch and engine...
I will start flaming on those suggestions as I state my questions regarding my riding style. I use my bike on the street, no track EVER, 1 year of riding exp only so I'm still learning.

1. What RPM to shift for a normal HUMAN being? And I mean in ALL gears, taking in SPEED LIMIT in consideration. I remember reading someone suggestion to shift at 10K RPM, which, I will definitely cause the entire neighborhood's car alarm to go off. So I don't even think that's an option.

2. Pros and cons of non-clutch shifting? I ran into this non=clutching technique a lots while surfing around. I, myself, accidently up shift w/o clutch yesterday too and was curious about it. But I read around and saw some comments saying it's not good for your clutch, some said, it's great and easy for shifting... so then is it good or is it bad FOR THE BIKE?

3. Blipping pros and cons? Yup, found this, too. Say you blip the throttle a bit to gain RPM, np if u match rev right... but if you don't, what now? All I saw were suggestion how one should rev match with blipping and get use to it with experience, but what is the trade off for that experience if u take too long to master that, would ur clutch be dead by then?

I hope to get serious replies and not anything from a clown or a risk taker OR someone that can afford more than 2 bikes and feel free to abuse it.

1. If you shift under 10k everytime cause you are worried about noise you will never really experience the power the bike has available. These motors are designed to be revved. You can just putt around and shift at any RPM you want but why ride a sport bike if you are not wanting to get the RPM's up and make use of the power it has.

2. It is the same as a car. Once you get use to that sweet spot you can tell by just the RPM when it will slide right into gear. For everyday riding there is no reason to do this, just use the clutch, they put them on a bike for a reason. Secondly if you are not wanting to rev the bike out you will never hit that spot where you could not use the clutch to shift smoothly anyways.

3. Blipping isa technique used on the track before slipper clutches. Lots of riders do it out of habit now. I personally have never been to a track so not very familiar with this but for everyday riding around town you have no need to learn this, especially with your year bike.

Not quite sure what kind of response you were looking for but just go out and ride and enjoy your bike. Gear up and be safe

If I'm just cruising around or casually accelerating I shift anywhere between 4 and 8. There's no harm done by no clutch up shifting as long as you do it right. Start to pull the lever up and ease off the gas for a split second, it will slip right into next gear completely smooth. I use the clutch and rev match all my downshifts. If you have a slipper clutch you don't really need to rev match but if you have aregular clutch, rev matching is the right thing to do.
just get out and have fun. Don't shift by the numbers, shift by feel

1. I never really wring her out on the street, she gets enough abuse on the track. Shifting at 6k or 14k, it's preference, do whatever you want.
2. Eh, you can shift a bit faster w/o clutching but I always use it anyway, even on the track. Again, more of a preference thing. Well unless I'm busy looking cool with my left hand on my hip, then I clutchless.
3. Blipping isn't necessary for bikes with slipper clutches but it does smooth things out, I rev-match street and track.

Good info here. I myself have been wondering this as well. Usually I shift around 4k-5k rpms when i am casually riding. When Im having more fun, there is no limit. :lmao

However usually I shift to 2nd at about 15 mph, not sure about 3 and 4th. Usually hit 5th by 35 mph and 6th by 45 mph. Idk, I seem to think this will help with fuel economy, but then again I really don't notice much of a difference when I abuse it. :confused:

Wow, now I feel good making this thread. I was kinda worried that I was shifting too soon and that my bike is still pretty new and I know very little about the bike.

I usually just hear the engine and shift accordingly. I've always kinda not want to hear the engine roaring too loud, it gives me a sense of something is damaging and damages = costly repair (I used most of my saving for the bike, lol) and I'm barely breaking it in.

So, thanks to these info, I'll maintain my shifting habit. I shifted around 4k-5k going around. Now I gotta learn how to down shift + rev match so I can get rid of the jerks I've been getting lately. Finally, after the bike is broke in, I'll find a good place to see the bike's power in its higher power band.

And, thank you for the helpful inputs and suggestions. Oh, and I do gear up properly, not a squid person, xD. Now only if I could find 1 website that would carry Scorpion Stinger Gloves to finish my entire gear. It's discontinued everywhere I go to order.

6th gear at 45mph your motor will be working harder cause of the gearing, drop it a gear and get the RPM's up a little more and it will be running more efficient

Good to know, I just figured that you would want to get to the higher gears sooner than later for less strain and better efficiency. Will put your advice to use.

Use common sense. You can't really hurt the bike by riding it sensibly. Shift using the clutch as normal. The no clutch thing is for the track. Keep the rpm's sane. You don't need to rev the bike to 10,000 all the time. Travel in a gear that makes sense. One where the engine is not lugging, but isn't wound out either. around 6-8 k is sensible.

so basically to sum it all up: use common sense. if the gear dont feel right, shift into a gear that does. shift at rpms that feel right for what your doing at that moment in time. and if you dont have common sense, you shouldnt be on 2 wheels, or 4 for that matter.

As far as the break in goes, I was paranoid about mine. However, through extensive research, I got a lot of mixed opinions. Some say baby it, some say rev the piss out of it out of the box. So I kind of found a happy medium. Don't get me wrong, I was easy on it, just because that was my instinct. But I would occasionally open her up, only to about 10,000rpm for only a couple seconds, then let off and let the engine braking help to splash oil all over the internals. In my mind, letting the engine spin up a little would be good for thhe break in, wearing all the internals in. With 2,000 miles on my bike now, I think it went perfectly.

As far as blipping the downshifts, I dont claim to be a pro, but I just quickly pull in the clutch, and snap the throttle and immediately let the clutch back out. Even though my rpms may not always match up perfectly, its quick easy, and "close enough" lol. Again, it works great for me, but thats just me. Im sure this reply is a little late, I neglected to check the date on your post, but hopefully it will help you or future readers.
