I'm doing the valves on my 03 R6. I have to order different shims because my exhaust valves are too tight. I was wondering if someone else could confirm this looks right. It just seems that i'm changing a variety of numbers for the same one.

Im ordering 7 x 185 and using an existing 190 for the 196 valve. I'm using the chart from the 03 service manual. Does this sound right?

sry cant answer your question, but was wondering how many miles are on your bike, mostly street/highway/track?
i have an 03 with 17 on it wondering when ill need to do an adjustment.

You can only order valve shims in .05 increments. When originally installed from the factory, they used .01 increments, but you can only order .05 increments afterwards. So for me to order 185 shims to correct my tight exhaust valves was the right move. I bought my bike at 37,000km and she now has 42,000. The previous owner tells me he didn't drive her to hard, but I dont know what else you would do with a machine like this . But anyways, it was time to do the adjustment as per the service manual. I also had a hard time sync'in the throttle bodies with #2 loosing vacuum pressure. So thats why I decided to check the valves. I discovered #2 exhaust valves slightly tighter than the rest. I hope this is going to resolve my sync issue. Shims come in on wednesday, i'll let ya know how it turns out.

I just always use this spreadsheet first. Just change the desired clearance value and the range because this was made for the 1st gen R6 that had slightly different valve clearance specs.

Doing my valve adjustments and I got

Do those number make sense? From my understanding, the intake cam is in spec, but the exhaust cam is out of spec. Most of the exhaust valves have the same value except one. Is that normal?

Can valve specs tell you anything about the motor? Like if it was ran hard, or why the intake is in spec and exhaust isn't?

I'm guessing I need to go buy some more shims since mine only had 3 of each size and it looks like I will need 4 more of the same shim.

So I finished adjusting the valves per factory specifications. I also replaced the spark plugs as they were also due.

I turned on the bike, let it idle and it still came down super low. So I adjusted the idle screw and turned it up to 1000-1500 and it is idling fine now. I guess the idle just needed to be adjusted, but I didn't want to mess with it since the valves and spark plugs were due.

Weird thing is that I don't remember hearing a valve tick before. But now I think I hear a slight tick.

Your valve train should be slightly noisy. Quiet valves are tight valves.
