what is that metal cylinder on the engine block, similar in shape as the oil filter, that's behind the exhaust pipes? for some reason i thought that was the filter, unscrewed it, and realized that wasn't it (dumbass). a bunch of oil drained when i did that. i screwed it back on, but want to make sure everything is OK. i looked in the shop manual and still can't figure it out :roll:

I believe that is the oil cooler, kinda like, a radiator for your oil.

Dont worry we all make dumb mistakes, at least yours didnt cost you money.

am I ok with screwing it back on or should I replace the washer and/or the o-ring?

I personally wouldnt worry about it. Just make sure you dont torque down on it too tight when you put it back on. You might want to call the dealership and ask them, as i dont want to be responsible if i am wrong, as it is not my bike.
