When Filling up

I've noticed that when filling up my tank seems to get to the top but will still take many many short little squirts of fuel. I'm thinking there's pockets of air in the tank contuors where air gets trapped. Has anyone else noticed this? how many gallons does that tank hold? 4.X if I'm not mistaken...the light comes on with what.. 0.92 gallons left in it? I'm putting in a little over three gallons when I fill up.

I believe the full tank is 5.3, but the gas light comes at like 3.2 used. I cannot remember, I don't have the manual in front of me.
I thought the tank was 4.5 gallons. And yah, the light comes on at a little under 1 gallon left.

Not sure what you're talking about. When my tank is full, it's full. When I'm filling up, I stick the nozzle all the way in & fill it up until the pump stops. Then I pull the nozzle out some & top it off.

Well I've noticed that when I've got the fill nozzle in and it fills up and stops, I can pull the nozzle out, get the bike verticle and it'll keep taking small amounts of gas for what seems like forever. If fact, I've done this to the point when I just get tired of it and say "***** it". But it would have kept taking more.

Thats weird man :screwy

The tank is 4.98 and the gas light comes on at .92 like others have said. But i highly doubt that Yamaha would put out a gas tank that contains air pockets. They fill up their test bikes on the track while testing the same way we do. Having air pockets right when filling up wont matter though, if you do get them, come the first corner you lean into :werd

I think thats because u have the old r6 version the 06-08 have different tank styles.

I do notice that you can keep putting little squirts in and it works its pretty weird.

i've got an '06 and i've got a 4.5 gallon tank... i know this b/c i ran it bone dry last monday and had to fill it all the way up. just a hair over 4.5 gallons worth.
I just fill up till the pump clicks off. Don't feel like pouring gas all over my bike and seat. :)

2008 is a 4.57 gallon tank.
