Ok so I have a 2002 r6 and I need a new trans (2nd gear pop out issue). Ive decided to just replace the whole thing from a newer model. Its been said that an 03-05 trans is a direct swap to the 1st gen model.

I've ALSO heard that the 03-05 trans will fit in a 06-09 generation bike.

If this is true, then shouldn't a 06-09 transmission also fit in the 1st gen bikes?

If not can somebody explain why?

06-07 R6R crankcase part# 2C0-15100-00-00
08-09 R6R crankcase part# 2C0-15100-01-00

02 R6S crankcase part# 5MT-15100-01-00
09 R6S crankcase part# 5SL-15100-02-00

if you wanted to swap out the transmission you need to swap the complete motor unless someone you know can swap the internals but you might as well just get a used R6 motor from a newer 06-09

Nope! That info may be correct but you don't need to swap the motor. Go take a look at the transmission parts. I just looked through all of them comparing '03R6-'09R6s and everything is the same part number. So the case may have a different part # for some reason but the transmission which he was asking about is identical.

Like I said, 03-05R6 06-09R6s are identical trannies and can be used in the 1st gen. To adress your vice versa comment I'm sure you could use a 1stgen gear box in a 2nd gen or R6s but why would you want a crappy gearbox more prone to problems. That's if I understood what you were trying to say correctly.
