Today my roommate took out his airfilter and instead of grabbing the K&N air filter cleaner he used brake cleaner he thinks it'll eat up and get rid of the oil remains in the filter alot better.. Anyone think it'll work or will be okay on his carbs etc think there will be remains in it at all that could affect things?

wow, you do everything that your not supposed to when cleaning a filter....

Brake cleaner will eat through the fine material in an air filter and render it useless. Mild soap and warm water is the best best, which is exactly what comes in the K&N kit. Don't use compressed air to dry because it can blow tiny holes into the filter that also renders is useless. When you do clean it, make sure to run the water from the inside out, that way you're not trying to push the dirt further into the filter. A filter designed to be oiled won't be effective if put back in dry, the filter media just isn't designed to capture particles without the oil. Like said before, go sparingly on the oil. It takes very little but is needed.

What do people consider a mild soap? Something such as laundry detergent, hand soap, liquid hand soap, carpet cleaner ha ha? Just curious..
Stay away from laundry. Stick with handsoap(no-moisturizer). Just normal hand soap. Either that or just really small amounts of dishwash soap. None of that extra tough stuff. Just regular cheapo brand dishwash soap.
