:thumbdownAlright guys im in a toughy and need some opinions. Im in my junior year of college, i work two jobs and right now am squeezing by with enough for my truck payment but with this second job have a little extra i could fork out. Ive been racing mx since i was 8 and recently started the whole street bike thing a couple years ago with a r6 but sold it because i rode it to much like my dirt bike..Anyways, i dont have as much time to ride mx with school and money so im thinking of getting a new streetbike to help with gas and also the whole having to be on a motorcyle thing. Ive decided to sell my new mx bike and use that money for a payment on a new r6, ill get 4500 for my bike and will prob. put down 3500 so ill still have money for insurance and all that good stuff. Everyone may know about the whole 89$ a month deal they have going, and i can afford that probably with school i just tend to overthink things and i know that if i just pay the 89 the bike still wont be paid off in 3 years so im kindof stuck on what i should do??just say screw it go big or go home and take the chance or play it safe...i dont like playing things safe..:thumbdown I cant go without having speed/adrenaline of some sort and its been driving me crazy not being able to ride my mx, so with street ill be getting one of my passions back and also saving on gas and everything else while enjoying the pleasures of the bike...Just looking for some advice. Any help is appreciated.

If i was you i'd buy a used R6 and not have to worry about financing a bike. You're too young to have to worry about another loan, especially for a luxury item. Do yourself a favor and look for an r6 in about the 2004+ range. They tend to go for about 3.5k to 7k depending on the mods, location, and the state of the bike.

The cost savings from motorcycles gas mileage is negligible. You are dishing out extra money to save money on gas? lol come on, you'll be driving twice as much now that you own a bike.

Side note: Buying used also gives you more options for trying out other bikes. If you don't like the R6 (which i highly doubt, but everyone has their tastes) you can always trade it for another bike until you find your "wholly grail." THEN, it's a good time to buy new. You really need to experience a few motorcycles before you buy new (i personally believe this. Think of it as marriage; you don't put a ring on the first broad you bed, you try a variety of women before you find the one)

Don't kid yourself.... people NEVER get these motorcycles because of the "gas situation". You get a bicycle or MAYBE a moped for that situation. Buying a bike is MUCH more costly than driving around in the same vehicle. The costs are as follows:

1) BUYING the bike
2) insurance for BOTH vehicles
3) gas for BOTH vehicles
4) proper gear for the bike

#1 & #4 are a once time cost, so that's not too much of an issue.... 2 & 3 are bigger ones IMO.

Anyway, back on topic. Only you can correctly assess your financial situation. You probably have already decided what you're going to do before you even posted this thread... you just want some validation of your decision. That means you kinda know that your decision is wrong for you at this time.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck and be safe.

You might save money on gas, but riding a motorcycle bigger than a 250 (especially a sportbike) will not save money overall. They eat tires horrifically quickly, are finicky about maintenance, go through chains and sprockets faster than a car goes through tires, etc. There's also the aforementioned insurance cost. Sportbikes do not save money.

If you absolutely must have the adrenaline and speed rush to make it through your day then you are absolutely not mature enough to buy a sportbike.

<NOT PARTICULARLY BIKE-RELATED RANT>"Squeezing by" financially is no way to go through life either. If you start doing that now you will most likely keep doing it until you get squeezed too tight. Take a look around at the whole credit crunch and tanking economy garbage. It's all because everyone was "squeezing by" on their credit cards. Now everyone is screwed because they couldn't keep their wallets in their pants.</RANT>

Thanks for al the input, ive had a r6 before and loved it, i love it seems everything yamaha puts out..im going to start looking at some used bike too now and see what my options are. As far as the maturity thing, this wont be my first bike ive owned i know the consequences and so on of my actions, i think everyone on this forum would be wrong if they went and said that they didnt ride for part of the thrill and pleasure it brings them.

I got a used 2006 r6s with 4k miles on it with integrated turn signals, yosh full exhaust, and an extra set of tires for 5.5. All you really need is patience to find the right deal. And the ability to pull the plug, otherwise you'll always be looking for a better deal.
