So my GF informs me she has been wanting a bike for the longest time and plans on getting her license and a motorcycle. This is a pretty sick deal, i dig she's into bikes and want to learn and ride one, but in the back of my head im pretty worried about her safety.

There's just so many factors out there that could cause an accident. Anyone with a GF whom started riding? Im sure she will be alright but I still worry.

Either way she wants a 2006-2007 GSX-R........:thumbdown:eek5:screwy

I tried to put a plug for the R6 but her reasoning..'the GSX-R just LOOKS BETTER!' :sing

Because in the end people are more likley to hate a group than individual. Im hated on just because I ride a bike. I dont gun it every where I go or do wheelies so why am I hated, for the pure fact others act dumb. As far as brands its like Chevy guys hate Fords and so on and so fourth. To the OP its awesome your girl is wanting to ride. Dosent matter what as long as she has the proper gear and training.

Good luck! Id be worried to lol ( cause women are already bad drivers :sing ...See the group thing)

i dont have a gf but im kinda sorta with someone who really wants a bike if that counts...and i know a lot of girls that have been hook ups and thigns that just love bikes

weird that she prefers the gixxer tho. i've got 3 friends with gixxer's and every girl we've had around them, including their girlfriends, always say they like mine better than their suzuki's....

interesting side not also.. i know a girl who works in a sushi house and she informed me that the word "suzuki" in japanese means "sea bass"....so our roads are flooded with sea bass

My gf rides. Scares me sometimes.

We broke up just after she started riding.. she had a pretty big stack in one of my race lids. I was devastated. Swore never to ever let another gf get into riding (At least not actively encourage them).

Back with the original chick now. she's a better rider but still worries me sometimes. Taking her out to the track in December to show her a few lines.. hopefully that'll help.

I want my wife to start riding, if that counts... I'll give her my r6 so I can get me an R1... Is that bad?:sing

Then I'll have the best of both worlds...:toocool:

I almost had her get a new EVO 10 too so I can ride it from time to time... Then she was like no I want an SUV so I can start rescuing dogs... (Damn animal lovers)....:yell

Are you on NESR? your screen name is familiar....

In any case my wife currently rides a gixxah, i am trying to change that so her bike is going up/currently for sale, oddly enough its an 07 gsxr 600...

anyway we met through riding and yes it is scary as shit sometimes, but soooo worth it when you get out for a nice long romantic ride and you end up in the middle of no where with some awesome roads....

have her take the msf first to see if she even wants to ride her own bike. the begginner course starts out with smaller bikes, and if you are the NESRian i think you are you know there are plenty of orgs locally that offer the program...

goodluck

I am the girlfriend who got into riding because of the boyfriend. I know he worries. But I also know he loves to go on rides with me and definitely loves the track days we go to together.

All the fun things in life are a little dangerous. Would you rather your g/f stay home and knit or something? :thumbdown

:laugh

rolf if u think of it this is probably the same way she feels when you go out riding... and dude just cause she's a girl dont mean she's any worse than a male new rider.. technically... statistics say that women are actually better riders cause males are more distracted looking at women lol.. but like everyone else that rides a bike, we all get better in time and so shall she..

Chicks can ride without issues, though they dont all have the strength to be able to compete at the top levels...yet. There are plenty of female riders that are legit, ranging from cruisers to full bore racers like Elena myers on the road, ashley fiolek in the dirt (who is also deaf), and there are tons of good female drag racers. As long as your GF has common sense and gets a bike that fits her correctly, not just one she likes, she'll be fine. It likely wont be an r6 because they are very tall, same with the Ducs and Daytonas. I suspect she'll be fine on that gsxr (and you might even enjoy it as well) or a zx6r.

My wife rides. She's not the greatest track rider yet, but she does fine on the street and OWNS people at the drag strip. She does decent on the quad as well, though dirt bikes werent really her thing...:laugh

Eh, other way around for me. I hung out with my brother and uncles growing up and all of them rode dirt and street. Started on a dirt bike in my early 20's till bike got stolen then finally made the plunge to street 4 yrs ago. My husband wanted nothing to do with my bike or riding. I kept harping on him saying if he just tried it he would love it (bought him the MSF classes for his birthday and got him more excited by dragging him to store to buy gear and really hamming it up saying what a cool lid he bought and how so much better than mine it was yaddi ya). I knew he worried when I was out and stayed up till I got home and gave me the business if I didn't call. Now he finally took the MSF course and commandeered my bike all this summer and LOVES riding (he has got the bug BIG time). But sure, when he was out and was due home at a certain time and was late, I was a nervous wreck. Next year we will both have bikes so I can be with him when riding so at least that's cool and calms a lot of my "hope he is okay" issues.

yea i would worry as well if my significant other was out riding late at night. not so much as to what can happen to them, but the lunatic drivers that come out at night. but i trust her enough that she knows her limit.

im on the same boat as you bro, my girl wants to learn how to ride as well i kinda dread her getting a bike i would worry way to much weve been together 6 years now. she wants an r6 as well but after letting her sit on my bike she agreed that its to much bike for her to handle so if she does shes starting off on a 250 doubt i would let her get anything bigger. oinly thing that scares me is shes kind of a crazy driver always switching lanes and cutting people off, worst thing is she doesnt really check her surroundings when she drives. so well she how she does i guess shes taking the course soon probably this spring.
i hear you! mines drive her car like she stole it! im always buckled up and pretty shit scared for my life. i cant imagine how shell be on a bike, where you need to be aware 100% of the time of your surroundings! ill prob drill into safety safety safety.

yea a GSX-R is just about right for her, not tall seat height, narrow seating, good ergos and whatnot. even though she is as about as tall as i am, and im 5'9 ha!

At last year's IMS in Chicago, my wife started sitting on various bikes. I asked her if she is considering one and she said yes and said she liked the one she was sitting on (white 848 :laugh :nono). A couple days after the show, I asked again and she said she was sure so a month later for her birthday I got her a new Kawi 250.
Now she wants a quicker bike so I'll probably end up picking up a new fz6r at the end of next season.
I'd say have her take the MSF course and then go from there. My wife KNOWS that anything other than a Yami isn't allowed at my house (besides a Duc) so she doesn't even test me with anything else. She hates Kawasaki already :sing

I already know that my husband is getting a Honda. That's all he keeps looking at. Hates Kawi's and already thinks that just squids own suzuki's haha. He doesn't want another R6 says he wants something different. I like Honda's too though so that's okay by me. And he drives like a little old man/lady. Totally non aggesive. Worries me a bit because when you are riding you need to be on top of your game and make quick desicions and just do it.

yea i drive like a grannie but im wicked aggressive on the bike. im sure shes gonna be the same way on both :(

it fits her, but i wish she'd get something different, so many people have GSX-R's and while the majority of them are squidding it, and ive seen plenty this season, some do ride it hard, they dont get respect though, sad. damn squids.

she's also a PETA activist and this makes getting leather gear or gear good enough to be a leather equivalent is gonna be hard. ha this is such a pain!!!!!!!!

Awesome man! I would definitely not let her jump straight to a 600. My wife started riding this past May and I bought her a 2010 ninja 250. It really built up her confidence and it's actually a really nice ride. Just 3 weeks ago I got her a 2009 ZX-6, and she's killing it man. She loves it and feels completely confident.

Getting her on the 250 first to build up her confidence was definitely the way to go. Get your lady used to shifting, the weight, and turns, then move her up.

My wife is riding great now because of the 250, and it's totally enjoyable for me because now I always have a riding partner that loves to roll!!

My wife started on a 600 having never ridden a motorcycle of any kind.....:fact And she's a half asian female....:laugh

If your GF goes out and puts money down/buys a bike that is INFINITELY better than yours, she is trying to tell you something.... :fact

#33 ·
it would prob be a better idea to get her on the 250 at first, but its HER money. i can only back up the safety issue but you know its her money, she does what she does, she earned those greens.

if anything i can teach her on my brother's suzuki s40 bobbed cruiser. get her used to the feel some more. im already dreading the text 'this bike is toooo much!' ha

J, check out ironstone ventures. Thats where my wife and i did our MSF. Awesome instructors. btw chances are pretty good that any org you go through you'll end up with a nesr memeber as an instructor lol

it would be good for her to start on something like a monster S2R (got it right this time Maxx bahahaha) good amount of torque very comfortable, not too much HP, and bullet proof motor....

Seacoast is a good place to start if you go the duc route again you can touch base with some of the people there through nesr. So if you decide to go that route shoot me a PM and ill point you to the people to talk to.... :fact

btw next season we'll get together for some rides, you are in the lowell area if im not mistaken in fact i think your in the same town as me :fact Il show you the local roads i gots in pelham NH :fact

i took ironstone last year and i loved it. i never rode a motorcycle before and after that FIRST day i went home and took out my R6 that was delivered while i was in class. it was a HANDFUL of bike to handle right after one day of riding but it was a good time. I had keith when i was there in north andover for the MSF course.

the Duc wont be for a while :( but i am tracking next year, i see a lot of NESR members there, but i dont post enough for them to know who i am.

ill ride with her often, or only let her ride when im riding too. lol hopefully she gets the hang of it. and yea i ride pelham a lot. i like hudson road but i almost crashed there a few weeks ago - went too wide up a left turn and ended up in a ditch, rolled out of it though :flex:

My friend's friend wanted to start on a R1, yet she failed the motorcycle course. Then my friend suggested that she practice on her 250 and she called it a b*tch bike.

I guess it's because girls want the image of looking bad when they want a 1000 as their first bike until they wreck.

I suggested my friend get a Gixxer 600 too because she was ready to upgrade and found a good deal on an R6, just that she's really short (5' even) and small. Heard Gixxers you can drop it 4 inches no problem but the bike is already low stock.
