hi,been looking through a lot of gallerys now and seen a lot of bikes with no decals on them and im liking it a lot. i can obviously get the ones off the fairings easily enough but the ones on the tank seem to be under the clear coat laquer. i've seen a few done now and was wondering is there a way its done or do i have to take it to a paint shop and get it done properly? thanks in advance.:)

I just got my R6S and pulled all the stickers. Lots of threads on here about best ways to go about removing them.

The tank stickers were by far the hardest for me. I used the wife's hairdryer and patience to slowly pull the stickers away. Once the stickers are off use them again to pull some of the remaining glue by quickly applying and pulling off again. Then a spray polish and micro fiber cloth cleaned the rest.

It can be done....one of my friends had a 99.....the decals are under the clear coat....what he did was used a razor blade and carefully cut around the edge of the decal and then used heat and pulled it off.....he thought it looked good....i thought it looked terrible......you could see that it didn't have clear coat where the decals were and up close you could see where the cuts were from the razor blade......if i were u and had the money i would take it and have it professionally done!!!!!!!!

If you do it the way RuJelous said you could sand the tank down with some 2000 grit paper and get some clear coat to spray over it. You can find just about everything you need from any auto part store. Then go to a regular paint store and get a Preval. It a bottle with CO2 and a make it yourself spray can. You put you clear coat in a little bottle and the CO2 will turn it into a spray.

i work in a body shop as an apprentice. going on year 2. you dont wanna use 2000 grit. it will take for ever. we always use 320 grit for prep complete and a random orbital sander.and a Mirka brand mirlion scuff pad for all curved surfaces.( the orbital will burn through if its on a curve and the paint will show waves) unless you got skills. but if you wanna save a buck you could prep it you self and mask it so all you need to do is get it painted.

here is a link for the mirka mirlion scuff pad.(you want the red ones, grey is used for plastic)
http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/pc-12048-819-mirka-mirlon-6-x-9-scuff-pads.aspx

this gives you 20 pads. you will probally only need 3-4. you know your done when they is no shiny spots, look at from lots of angles.( you want the very fine, not ultra fine)

GOOD LUCK:)

If your tank stickers are under the clear, you are going to have to get ur tank repainted if you want em off that bad. It is going to look like hell if you try to blend the clear coats. espicially if you get the stuff from the auto parts store that is going to look like $hit! If you care at all what it looks like, go have it done in a paint booth by a professional painter.
