throttle cable woes

Hi,
I am having a bit of trouble with my throttle on my bike and need a hand. when I twist the throttle tube, it takes a long time to return to closed, 1-2 seconds, and doesnt snap back. I removed the throttle tube, and it is not binding on the bars or within the throttle tube. when I reach and move where the cable attach to the throttle body, it takes the same time to move back. does that spring down there ever go bad? also, when I turn the throttle tube, it doesnt open up the valves on the throttle bodies, but when I do it by hand, it does, is this normal? anything else to check? it does run ok, but has a loss of power until about 6000rpms. let me know what you think
thanks for your help

If you change the grips, make sure they are not rubbing w/the throttle housing. Follow the cables and there should be to nuts check to see if those are loose. If not remove the airbox and check the TB's on the left side near the frame, make sure those are tight.

sorry, 2006 r6, I actually have the grips off now, as I am waiting on changing them, and thought that might be the problem. all the nuts on the TB and cable seem tight and adjusted. any ideas on whether the flaps on the throttle bodies should open with the throttle or not?
thanks,

The throttle bodys will mirror the twist grip in Diag Mode only. Normally the YCCT will only open the TB's as much as the ECU determines is needed to keep the air velocity high.

Make sure you have enough throttle cable slack, people often adjust out the slack which can cause throttle cable binding. Your twist grip should snap closed quickly, when did you notice the problem and what have you done before the problem started.

2006+ R6 use YCCT (Throttle by wire) your cables are attached to a TPS, that sends a signal to the ECU, the ECU controls the TB's. There is a mechanical attachment (TB-Cables) for closing the throttles only, safety reasons.

emry,
thanks for the info, that helps a lot. I just picked up the bike for cheap a few weeks ago, and it has done it since I have had it, so not really sure how long it has been going on. I will try messing with the slack and see if that gets me anywhere
thanks,
