I use Motul semi-synthetic (15w-50) and the bike runs really good

 

I think I use 15W-50 from Mobil 1, but havn't changed in a while.

Run a full synthetic. You will not beleive the difference in shifting, with the wet-plate clutch that is.

Another Full Synthetic that is really good is made by Silkolene...shoot zmaniac a pm, that is what he uses.

Oh yeah, they come in different weights, just the same.

I've been using Motul 300V full synthetic (15W50) myself, but I just put some Castrol R4 Superbike (5W40) in my R1 for the last oil change because I haven't been able to find the 300V since I moved. I haven't been able to ride since I changed the oil though because of some electrical/sensor/switch issues that I've been chasing.

I'm sure you can't go wrong with using the Yamalube 4R though since that's what Graves uses in his racebikes. I'm curious to know why he uses the 4R vs. a fully synthetic oil though.

during the summer i run 10W50 and since we are nearing the cold temps.
I recently change to 10W40

I just changed my oil the other day on my o5. I used yamalube. It's the best for our r6s. I was helping a buddy change oil on his today and he used the motul oil. That stuff looks like it comes used out of a nascar. It's pitch black, looooks sooooo horrible. Use yamalube please.

 

I've been running Mobil 1 full synthetic 15W50 for about 2500 miles now. . My opinion is that the synthetic offers me better protection and a smoother shift. Maybe its just my head, but i think that a smoother shift = less friction and longer component life? Anyway, i'm pretty convinced. . and will most likely continue the full synthetics in my bike. OTOH, i use nothin but conventional oils in my cars. So, to each his own.

 

Maxima Ultra 0W-30. That is some AWESOME OIL. I was using Maxima formula K4, which is basically maximas racing formula for hi-rev 4 cycles engines, but couldn't find a shop in town that can order it. I would not use any synthetic oil formulated for cars, because they put molybdenum in as a friction modifier, which is BAD for a wet clutch, ie, the clutch will slip easier. Get oil formulated for a bike if anything, dino or synthetic. When I was using the formula K4, it was a 0W-20 oil, I seriously felt like the bike was faster, I was easily keeping up with my buddy who has a full ti arata exhaust, pc3, graves slidestops, etc., while my bike is basically stock. Maxima makes good oil. And the reason the oil comes out nasty after an oil change is because of all the clutch dust in it, not because it is bad oil.

 

try royal purple.

 

I go through a process. I start with regular oil, then after a few oil changes use the semi synthetic. and then i go to full synthetic. I have had 5 different bikes in the past 5 years and they were all run hard.Maxima synthetic, synthetic oil is all i have been using the last 2 years.. the best oil i've tried by far... and oh yeah.. I have used Motul,Motorex, Royal Purple, and yamalube. they are all good it's just the maxima oil ...well let me say that on my 954 stunt bike the oil gets a beating and i hven't had any engine problems since using maxima, and when i told my buddies about it they all made the change and all have the same results..ALL GOOD!!!...and oh yeah we have a whole lot less engine problems the only difference that we all made is the use of maxima oils.. try it you should be satisfied.. and you could call and place the order after looking up the part#'s on their website. not too many shops carry the stuff so i order extra just in case. It's all gonna get used anyway and if anything i'll sell it to a buddy for the same price and order more. :secret

You mean it came out of the bike pitch black?

All oil will be black within a few hundred miles.

I use Red Line in my car; have you used Red Line before? How does it compare to the Royal Purple. I have wondered about this before and the Royal Purple seems to be easier to come by at my new location than Red Line is; it was vice versa in HI.
